Should you Google your Medical Condition?

I listened to an interesting interview with a doctor on the radio in my car that discussed the claim that 1 in 3 Americans use Google to search out medical problems. According to PEW research and reported by Global News in Canada, 35 percent of American adults self-diagnosed this way and 41 percent of people who self-diagnosed have had their diagnosis confirmed by their doctor. My thinking is that it allows people to learn more about their condition and be more informed when discussing treatment options with their doctor. I did the same thing when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It is conceivable that a cancer diagnosis will have anyone burying their head in their laptop reading what they can about the disease. It is amazing to me that civilization got this far without a computer; I can hardly fathom now how I managed to acquire a university degree with only a typewriter and research books – way back when. A doctor was being interviewed about this new research and he had an interesting take. I wish I had paid more attention to his name since he is a doctor that I suspect most of his patients are not only satisfied with but thrilled to have. This doctor stated that he thought that it was a good thing that patients had done their research and brought their information to discuss with him.
