Association of genetic variants in IGF-1 gene with susceptibility to gestational and type 2 diabetes mellitus

ConclusionsHuman IGF-1 gene may be a candidate gene for GDM and T2DM risk, as our study suggests a significant association between the IGF-I rs35767 and rs5742612 polymorphisms and the risk of T2DM and GDM in pregnant women, whereas there was no association for rs2288377.

This study described the results of 40 years of research conducted at the Perinatal Diabetes Research Centre at São Paulo State University (UNESP), Brazil, on the maternal MGH environment and placental markers. CONCLUSIONS: Two new studies (406 women) have been incorporated to one of the comparisons for this update. Although the evidence suggests that CGM in comparison to intermittent glucose monitoring may reduce hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, this did not translate into a clear reduction for pre-eclampsia, and so this result should be viewed with caution. Conclusions:Women with GD history demonstrated high risk of developingT2D. Simple changes of lifestyle were shown to be an effcient prevention protocol. Despite therapeutical education, few women spontaneously complied with T2D screening. Conclusions/interpretationThe diagnosis of GDM identifies young women who have a twofold higher risk of cardiovascular events postpartum compared with their peers. This risk is not dependent upon intercurrent type 2 diabetes and is apparent within the first decade after pregnancy. Thus, even without progressing to type 2 diabetes, women with GDM comprise an at-risk population for CVD and hence a potential opportunity for early risk factor surveillance and risk modification.
