Essentials in Minimally Invasive Gynecology Manual Skills Pilot Validation Trial

ConclusionThe EMIG laparoscopic and hysteroscopic simulations systems were considered to have good face validity and appear to be suitable for a construct validation trial to confirm their utility in distinguishing among trainees and practitioners with a wide spectrum of endoscopic surgical experience. The recording and specimen storage mechanisms will allow for multiple proctors to rate a candidate's performance, thereby enhancing evaluation consistency and quality.

We report a case of low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma in a 39-year-old woman, whose ultrasound examination suggested a large endometrial polyp. Polypectomy followed by laparoscopic total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy was performed. The final histological examinat ion showed no residual disease, implying that the tumor was totally resected during hysteroscopy. This case report highlights that endometrial stromal sarcoma is to be included in the differential diagnosis of endometrial polyp though rare.

Authors: Zhang NN, Wang GW, Yang Q Abstract Objective: To compare the incidence of postmenstrual bleeding after hysteroscopic resection versus laparoscopic repair of previous cesarean scar defect (PCSD).Materials and methods: Retrospective analysis of computerized patient records. For the diagnosis of PCSD, patients underwent transvaginal ultrasound first without and then with saline-assisted sonohysterography. Hysteroscopic PCSD resection was performed under sonographic guidance, while laparoscopic repair was guided by hysteroscopy for the confirmation of scar margins. Results: Records of 62 patients presenting wit...

OC Alabi, JE Okohue, AA Adewole, JI IkechebeluNigerian Journal of Clinical Practice 2020 23(5):747-749 Coronavirus 2, or SARS-CoV-2 disease (COVID-19) is a global public health concern. Although there is a paucity of evidence to advise on the best practice, we recommend postponement of elective gynecological endoscopic surgeries until the pandemic is contained. Emergency surgeries should preferably be done through open surgeries than laparoscopy or hysteroscopy approach. However, if or when laparoscopy or hysteroscopy is considered, health personnel in theatre must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ...

CONCLUSION: Pregnancy outcomes after hysteroscopic placement of a microinsert for hydrosalpinx management before embryo transfer were comparable to those following laparoscopic proximal tubal occlusion or salpingectomy. However, caution is advised regarding microinsert placement for hydrosalpinges before proceeding with assisted reproductive technology. PMID: 32224160 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Discussion –— Cesarean scar ectopic pregnancy (CSEP) or Cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP) is a rare form of ectopic pregnancy resulting from implantation of a blastocyst within myometrial scar tissue (old uterine scars) in the anterior lower uterine segment (LUS) at the site of prior Cesarean section.— It is considered amongst the rarest type of ectopic pregnancy, although some do not include it in the category of ectopic pregnancy as implantation occurs within the uterus itself.— Incidence is on rise due to increasing numbers of elective Cesarean sections as well as improved detection with tr...

ConclusionsThe prevalence of endometriosis in infertile women was higher than expected. The indication for operative infertility diagnostics by minimal invasive techniques should be made much more generous as well as the complete clarification of the causes of female infertility.

Abstract Background and Objective: Investigating the use of radiofrequency myolysis (RFM) for the treatment of fibroids through less invasive access by combining transvaginal ultrasound, hysteroscopy and laparoscopy. Materials and Methods: Fifty-four premenopausal women with 106 symptomatic uterine myomas. Patients underwent RFM in three ways: Vaginal Ultrasound-guided RFM (VU-RFM), Laparoscopic RFM (L-RFM) and Hysteroscopic-RFM (H-RFM). The mean patient age was 43 years; 52 symptomatic uterine myomas were subserosal, 44 intramural and 10 submucosal. The outcomes evaluated at 1 and 12 months after RFM were myoma s...

Authors: Yilmaz G, Akca A, Kiyak H, Salihoglu Z Abstract Introduction: Data regarding the role of the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol in improving postoperative outcomes and postoperative compliance in patients undergoing gynecological surgery, in particular, minor laparoscopic and hysteroscopic gynecological procedures, are limited. Aim: To investigate the impact of the ERAS protocol on time to ambulation, length of stay (LOS), readmissions and postoperative complications in patients undergoing minor gynecological surgical procedures. Material and methods: A total of 104 patients undergoing...

Authors: Abstract This Committee Opinion provides guidance on the current uses of hysteroscopy in the office and the operating room for the diagnosis and treatment of intrauterine pathology and the potential associated complications. General considerations for the use of diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy include managing distending media, timing for optimal visualization, and cervical preparations. In premenopausal women with regular menstrual cycles, the optimal timing for diagnostic hysteroscopy is during the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle after menstruation. Pregnancy should be reasonably excluded...
