Challenges in policy reforms for non-communicable diseases: the case of diabetes in Kenya.
Conclusions: In Kenya, a major gap remains between how diabetes is addressed within the NCD policy agenda and tackling diabetes in reality, with respect to local implementation processes. More emphasis on population-wide prevention and inclusion of the non-health sector could help to cascade national efforts to the grassroots level. A concerted effort from the highest political level is needed to address overarching NCD drivers while maintaining health system improvement strategies. PMID: 31117896 [PubMed - in process]
"For Mass Eye and Ear Special Issue" Adaptive Optics in the Evaluation of Diabetic Retinopathy. Semin Ophthalmol. 2019 Jun 12;:1-9 Authors: AbdelAl O, Ashraf M, Sampani K, Sun JK Abstract Retinal imaging is a fundamental tool for clinical and research efforts in the evaluation and management of diabetic retinopathy. Adaptive optics (AO) is an imaging technique that enables correction of over 90% of the optical aberrations of an individual eye induced primarily by the tear film, cornea and lens. The two major tasks of any AO system are to measure the optical imperfections of the eye and to the...
Conclusion: Vitamin D and calcium levels are inversely correlated with random blood sugar and glycated haemoglobin and also probing pocket depth and clinical attachment loss, thus contributing towards increase in periodontal disease severity. PMID: 31198072 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
In this study, the effect of T2D on neuronal integrity and elemental distribution in the cerebellar cortex, as well as the therapeutic effect of Raffia Palm(Raphia hookeri) wine (RPW) were investigated in male albino rats. T2D was induced in 4 groups of rats using fructose and streptozotocin. One group served as negative control which was administered water, the second and third group were administered 150 and 300 mg/kg bodyweight of RPW, while the fourth was administered metformin (200 mg/kg bodyweight). Two other groups of normal rats were administered distilled water (control) and of RPW (300 mg/kg bodyw...

CONCLUSIONS: The evidence included in this review indicates that effective, scalable interventions addressing SSB consumption at a population level exist. Implementation should be accompanied by high-quality evaluations using appropriate study designs, with a particular focus on the long-term effects of approaches suitable for large-scale implementation. In a world of social companion robots, chatbots, or artificial intelligence buddies, adults have the responsibility to teach kids well how to live a healthy life with the available technologies, how to balance between the online and the offline world, how to keep their mental stability in the face of innovations. As it’s an awfully difficult job, we collected examples where digital health technology could help and in which areas should analog methods prevail. The land where kindergarteners play with the texture of raspberry When was the last time you paid attention to the crunching sounds while eating a raw ca...
