Management of patients with metastatic prostate cancer (mPC) in a rural part of North Norway with a scattered population: does living near the department of oncology translate into a different pattern of care and survival?

In conclusion, these results suggest that the health-care system in Nordland County successfully delivers state-of-the-art oncology care to patients with mPC. PMID: 31120400 [PubMed - in process]

In conclusion, the genomics of diagnostic prostatic biopsies acquired from men who develop mCRPC differ from those of the nonlethal primary prostatic cancers. RB1/TP53/AR aberrations are enriched in later stages, but the prevalence of DDR defects in diagnostic samples is similar to mCRPC.

Loss of androgen receptor (AR) signaling dependence occurs in approximately 15%–20% of advanced treatment-resistant prostate cancers, and this may manifest clinically as transformation from a prostate adenocarcinoma histology to a castration-resistant neuroendocrine prostate cancer (CRPC-NE). The diagnosis of CRPC-NE currently relies on a metastatic tumor biopsy, which is invasive for patients and sometimes challenging to diagnose due to morphologic heterogeneity. By studying whole-exome sequencing and whole-genome bisulfite sequencing of cell free DNA (cfDNA) and of matched metastatic tumor biopsies from patients wi...

It is always a challenge for effective drug delivery and release of drug in specific tumor sites. Therefore to identify the synergistic effect of chemotherapeutic drug and photo thermal agent on tumor area, Doxorubicin (DOX) acts as anticancer agent but it has low aqueous solubility so its clinical application is limited. The present study developed doxorubicin (DOX) were desig...

ConclusionCompounds 1, 2, 5, and 6 showed anti-prostate cancer activities using the LNCaP prostate cancer cells with IC50 values of 17.84, 33.26, 54.13, and 81.55 μg/mL, and compounds 3, 4, 8, and 9 exhibited moderate hepatoprotective activities, respectively. A preliminary structure-activity relation was summarized in this paper.Graphical abstract

AbstractBackgroundSeveral scan parameters for PET imaging with18F-PSMA-11 such as dosage, acquisition time and scan duration were evaluated to determine the most appropriate scan protocol, as well as the effect of furosemide administration on lesion visualization. Forty-four patients were randomly assigned to a dosage group (2.0  ± 0.2 or 4.0 ± 0.4 MBq/kg18F-PSMA-11). All patients received a full-body PET/CT 1  h and 3 h after radiotracer injection with a scan duration of 3 min/bed position. For comparison of the scan duration, images were reconstructed ...

ConclusionsRecent literature shows that the transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy results in higher infectious complication rate than the transperineal prostate biopsy. NAATs, recently introduced technique to detect FQr may detect all antibiotic-resistant rectal microbiota members —included MDRs—although the technique still has limitations and economical burdens. Transient solutions are escalating antibiotic prophylaxis and widening the indications for TPB.

gi Califano Francesco Mangiapia Nicola Longo Background: Prostate cancer (PCa) represents a common disease in men aged >65 years. The role of physical activity (PA) in patients at risk or diagnosed with PCa represents an evolving issue. We aimed to summarize available evidences about the impact of PA on the pathophysiology and clinical outcomes of PCa. Methods: We performed a narrative review. Evidences about the role of PA in elderly patients in terms of PCa biology, epidemiology, oncological and functional outcomes, as well as in terms of impact on the outcomes of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) were su...
