Association study between matrix metalloproteinase ‐3 gene (MMP3) polymorphisms and ankylosing spondylitis susceptibility

ConclusionThe present study suggests that MMP3 rs522616 polymorphism is associated with AS susceptibility and MMP3 might be a potential diagnostic biomarker for AS. Further independent studies with larger cohorts are warranted to validate our findings in different populations.

CONCLUSION: The improved health status of many patients with rheumatic diseases confirms the high level of care provided by the rheumatism centers involved in the NDB. The increasing specification of measuring instruments and the standardization of documentation systems are major challenges that the NDB will have to face in the coming years if it is to remain in the digital age. CONCLUSION: Limb lymphedema is a rare extra-articular manifestation of spondyloarthritis. Its course appears to be independent of joint disease. Its management is specific and should be associated to that of the rheumatologic disorder. PMID: 31279481 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Caliskan T, Sirin DY, Karaarslan N, Yilmaz I, Ozbek H, Akyuva Y, Kaplan N, Kaya YE, Simsek AT, Guzelant AY, Ates O Abstract The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of etanercept (ETA), a tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitor, on human cell cultures prepared from intact intervertebral disc tissue. ETA is used as a treatment for cases of rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis and ankylosing spondylitis accompanied by moderate or severe joint pain. ETA was applied to primary cell cultures [annulus fibrosus and nucleus pulposus (NP) from intact intervertebral dis...

AbstractSelective immunoglobulin A deficiency (SIgAD) is the most common primary immunodeficiency, defined as an isolated deficiency of IgA (less than 0.07  g/L). Although the majority of people born with IgA deficiency lead normal lives without significant pathology, there is nonetheless a significant association of IgA deficiency with mucosal infection, increased risks of atopic disease, and a higher prevalence of autoimmune disease. To explain thes e phenomena, we have performed an extensive literature review to define the geoepidemiology of IgA deficiency and particularly the relative risks for developing systemic...

Rationale: Acquired pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) can be a secondary response to some autoimmune disorders. However, there is no data about the possibility of acquired PRCA being a secondary complication to ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Patient concerns: A 42-year-old male who had a history of AS for 14 years. He got serious anemia 17 months ago. Bone marrow smear indicated PRCA. Diagnose: He was diagnosed with acquired PRCA secondary to AS. Intervention: The combination treatment of immunosuppressants with hematopoiesis stimuli was successful. Outcomes: The patient recovered from PRCA, and showed improvement i...

CONCLUSIONS: There are no differences in adherence to biological therapies among patients with  chronic inflammatory arthropathies. Adherence correlates with attendance at outpatient  appointments, but this does not imply an increase in the use of hospital resources. PMID: 31276446 [PubMed - in process]

Abstract OBJECTIVES: Previous studies found that the interleukin (IL)-17 level was elevated in inflammatory arthritis, but results were inconsistent. This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the association of IL-17 cytokine with osteoarthritis (OA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA). METHODS: Relevant studies were searched using databases. Standardized mean difference (SMD) was calculated. Correlation coefficient was utilized to evaluate the relationship between IL-17 and disease activity of AS and RA. Subgroup analysis, sensitivity analysis and meta-regressi...
