In this study, the potential of bardoxolone methyl (BARD), an Nrf2 activator, was examined in cell culture systems against HBV and HCV. We investigated that BARD had a suppressive effect on the production of extracellular HBV DNA in several HBV culture systems. In addition, BARD treatment reduced the levels of intracellular HBV pregenome RNA (pgRNA), a transcript from the HBV genome and a template of HBV genome replication. HCV genome replication was also suppressed in HCV subgenomic replicon-bearing cells by BARD treatment. BARD might be a novel treatment for patients with HBV and HCV co-infection.

Conclusions: Among NBNC-HCC patients, heavy alcohol use or any other identifiable cause was not found in 38.0%. These NBNC-NA-NO HCC patients showed a high prevalence of HBcIgG positivity and metabolic risk factors, suggesting that prior hepatitis B virus infection and metabolic risk factors may be major contributing factors in the hepatocarcinogenesis in NBNC-NA-NO patients. Negative effects on growth indices had been reported in children treated with interferon for chronic viral hepatitis. Forty chronic hepatitis C virus-infected adolescents, 12–17 years of age, were treated with sofosbuvir/daclatasvir therapy for 12 weeks. The intent-to-treat sustained virologic response rate at 12 weeks after end of treatment was 39/40 (97.5%). Unlike interferon-based therapy, we did not detect significant negative effects on linear growth or weight. Conclusions: In HCV-negative recipients, allografts with>15% Sd-MaS have significantly reduced graft survival and show low ATP and higher AST peaks in the immediate posttransplant period. CONCLUSION: The modified HCV-Ags EIA has a lower detection limit equivalent to serum HCV RNA levels of approximately 100 IU/mL. It is highly sensitive and specific in the setting of HIV coinfection, regardless of HIV infection status and CD4 count.
