Major neurocognitive changes occur during adolescence, making this phase one of the most critical developmental periods of life. Furthermore, this phase in life is also the time in which youth substance use begins. Several studies have demonstrated the differential associations of alcohol and cannabis use concerning the neurocognitive functioning of both males and females. Past and contemporary literature on gender-specific effects in neuroscience of addiction is predominantly based on cross-sectional datasets and data that is limited in terms of measurement variability. Given the importance of gender-specific effects in a...

This study focuses on vulnerable individuals due to their age and investigates interactions between possible risk (need to belong, NTB) and protective factors (online self-regulative competences, OSRC). Participants (N = 466) between 10 and 17 years answered questionnaires assessing social-networks-use disorder symptoms, NTB, and OSRC. Moderated regression analysis revealed significant effects of age, NTB, and OSRC. Three-way interaction was also significant (potentially mainly caused by females), with highest social-networks-use disorder symptoms found for individuals with high NTB and low OSRC, especially when older. Wit...

enestier Pierre Sujobert Targeted therapies have improved the outcome of cancer, but their efficacy is intrinsically limited by the emergence of subclones with a mutation in the gene encoding the target protein. A few examples of collateral sensitivity have demonstrated that the conformational changes induced by these mutations can create unexpected sensitivity to other kinase inhibitors, but whether this concept can be generalized is unknown. Here is described the development of a model to screen a library of kinase inhibitors for collateral sensitivity drugs active on the Bruton Tyrosine Kinase (BTK) protein with t...

Even in normal times, most of us have issues with courage, because it is so subjective: Are skydivers brave … or just addicted to adrenaline? Is snapping selfies on the far side of DANGER: NO ENTRY signs ...
