However, and despite evidences of the existence of RANK-positive hormone receptor (HR)-positive breast tumors, the implication of RANK expression in HR-positive breast cancers has not been addressed before. Here, we report that RANK pathway affects the expression of cel...

This study is an evaluation of patient characteristics, clinicopathologic features, diagnostic tools, therapeutic options, risk factors for recurrence, and distant metastasis and follow-up findings in patients with PTs. One hundred twenty-seven patients with pathologica lly proved PTs in the National Cancer Institute, Cairo University, Egypt, from January 2011 to January 2016 were reviewed and analyzed. Sixty patients presented with benign PTs (47.2%), 34 had borderline PTs (26.8%), and 33 had malignant PTs (26%). The mean follow-up period was approximately 36 mon ths; local recurrence occurred in 34 patients, 9 benig...

Malnutrition frequently occurs and deteriorates in patients after surgery for gastric cancer, especially after hospital discharge, which has been consistently associated with negative outcomes. However, information regarding the impact of post-discharge nutritional interventions is poorly described. The aim of this study was thus to evaluate the impact of post-discharge oral nutritional supplements (ONS) with dietary advice compared with dietary advice alone on nutritional outcomes, including body mass index (BMI) and skeletal muscle index (SMI), sarcopenia prevalence, chemotherapy tolerance, the 90-day readmission rate, a...

ConclusionThe study examined simple prognostic factors that could help to screen patients better for RH. Repeat hepatectomy improved the prognosis for patients with recurrent CRLM. The independent prognostic factors for OS were number of liver metastases at recurrence as a conventional factor and budding grade as a new pathologic factor. With budding used as an index, patients who could benefit from hepatectomy can be screened more precisely.

Multidrug resistance (MDR), which is a significant impediment to the success of cancer chemotherapy, is attributable to various defensive mechanisms in cancer. Initially, overexpression of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters such as P-glycoprotein (P-gp) was considered the most important mechanism for drug resistance; hence, many investigators for a long time focused on the development of specific ABC transporter inhibitors. However, to date their efforts have failed to develop a clinically applicable drug, leaving only a number of problems. The concept of cancer stem cells (CSCs) has provided new directions for both c...

ndi Francesco Massari Urothelial carcinoma (UC) is a frequent cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Metastatic UC has been historically associated with poor prognosis, with a median overall survival of approximately 15 months and a 5-year survival rate of 18%. Although platinum-based chemotherapy remains the mainstay of medical treatment for patients with metastatic UC, chemotherapy clinical trials produced modest benefit with short-lived, disappointing responses. In recent years, the better understanding of the role of immune system in cancer control has led to the development and approval of several immunothera...
