Factors associated with late presentation of patients with chronic kidney disease in nephrology consultation in Cameroon-a descriptive cross-sectional study. Ren Fail. 2019 Nov;41(1):384-392 Authors: Marie Patrice H, Joiven N, Hermine F, Jean Yves B, Folefack François K, Enow Gloria A Abstract BACKGROUND: Late presentation (LP) of chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients to nephrologist is a serious problem worldwide with persistent high prevalence despite known benefits of early nephrology care. OBJECTIVE: Determine the prevalence and factors associated with LP of CKD patients to nephrologists in Cameroon. METHODS: A cross-sectional study from October 2015 to May 2016 at the nephrology units of the Douala General and Laquintinie hospitals, including all consenting incident CKD patients. Data collected were: socio-demographic, search of CKD diagnostic criteria during prior follow up, therapeutic itinerary, clinical and biological parameters at presentation, knowledge on CKD and attitude towards dialysis. LP was defined as eGFR

Methods and results: We calculated the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) with the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration creatinine (CKD-EPI) equation and defined RI as an eGFR

AbstractIntroductionChronic kidney disease (CKD) is a systemic disease affecting many organs. Progression of renal failure aggravates ongoing inflammation and increases oxidative stress. In the final stage of CKD, it is necessary to use renal replacement therapy. A side effect of dialysis therapy is the synthesis of proinflammatory factors and increased oxidative stress, which activates platelets and immune cells.Aim of the studyTo determine the regenerative potential of platelets in patients with CKD based on the analysis of the relationships between substances with potential regenerative action, as well as analysis of th...

ConclusionNitric oxide and reduced glutathione were associated with the inflammatory status in diabetic renal dysfunction patients which reflected by elevation in leukocytes and neutrophils count, red cell distribution width as well as the reduction in values of erythrocytes, platelets count, hemoglobin and hematocrit. Therefore, hematological indices can play a role in predict the progression of diabetic nephropathy.

Conclusion: DDR2 might play an important role in the development of RIF; Calcium dobesilate can affect the expression of DDR2 and improve the renal interstitial fibrosis in mice. PMID: 31169440 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: Xie P, Li HL, Huang JM, Wei LG Abstract Introduction: To investigate the validity of the full age spectrum (FAS) equation in determining the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in Chinese patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and to compare the performance of FAS equation and the technetium-99m-diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid (Tc-99m-DTPA) renal dynamic imaging method. Methods: The GFR was determined by three methods in the same day: (a) Tc-99m-DTPA dual plasma sample clearance method (mGFR); (b) FAS equation (eGFR1); (c) Tc-99m-DTPA renal dynamic imaging method (eGFR2). The mGFR was used as the ref...

Heyer, Taylor Swansen, Rajeev PandarinathAbstractObjectivesThough the role of chronic kidney disease (CKD) has been studied previously in primary arthroplasty procedures of the hips and knees, there is a paucity of literature analyzing CKD's impact on surgical outcomes in revision total knee arthroplasty (rTKA) patients. As the number of patients with CKD requiring revision surgery increases, more vigilant pre-operative and post-operative measures can be taken to ensure su...

In this study, we administered FFNT25 to rats following unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) to investigate its anti-fibrosis mechanism. Thirty-two Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups: (1) control (normal rats), (2) sham-operated, (3) UUO-operated + vehicle, and (4) UUO-operated + FFNT25. Two weeks after UUO, the rats were gavaged with either FFNT25 (20.6 mg/kg/day) or vehicle for two weeks. Serum, urine, and kidney samples were collected at the end of the study. FFNT25 reduced levels of renal fibrosis and decreased mRNA and protein levels of extracellular matrix (...

Authors: Tarapan T, Musikatavorn K, Phairatwet P, Takkavatakarn K, Susantitaphong P, Eiam-Ong S, Tiranathanagul K Abstract Reduction in renal clearance and removal by hemodialysis adversely affect the level and utility of high-sensitivity troponin I (hsTnI) for diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Furthermore, HD process itself might cause undesirable myocardial injury and enhance post HD hsTnI levels. This comparative cross-sectional study was conducted to compare the hsTnI levels between 100 asymptomatic HD patients and their 107 matched non-chronic kidney disease (CKD) po...

(Natural News) Chronic kidney failure, also known as chronic kidney disease, is a progressive and potentially life-threatening condition in which the kidneys are damaged and can’t filter blood properly. A study published in the journal Food Science and Human Wellness found a natural solution to this debilitating disease that can also improve kidney function: Chinese chives. Chinese...
