Pre-operative thrombotic complications of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer: Implications for immediate breast reconstruction
Conclusion: An awareness of the effects of thrombotic events in this patient group is important in terms of developing an understanding of its impact on the performance of reconstruction, on the management of anticoagulation peri-operatively and on monitoring for post-operative complications.
The endothelium could be a potential target of cancer cell derived extracellular vesicles (CaCe-dEV). We investigated in vitro the effect of CaCe-dEV on the hemostatic balance of endothelial cells. Extracellular vesicles released from pancreas adenocarcinoma cells (BXPC3) or human breast cancer cells (MCF7) were isolated by differential centrifugation. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) were cultured for 72 h in the presence or absence of CaCe-dEV. Subsequently, they were washed and re-cultivated over three cycles to get daughter cell generations (DG) which were not exposed to CaCe-dEV.

CONCLUSIONS: Breast cancer was not associated with altered risk of thromboembolism or bleeding in patients with atrial fibrillation irrespective of treatment with anticoagulation. CONCLUSION: Although a personal history of these malignancies does represent a statistically significant risk factor for acute VTE after anatomic TSA, the overall VTE rate remains modest and acceptable. The rates of other surgical and medical complications are not significantly increased in patients with a history of these cancers after TSA compared with control subjects. Since the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) has been stopped 2002 due to increased risk of venous thromboembolism, myocardial infarction, stroke and breast cancer, safety issues have got great concern using hormone replacement therapy (HRT). However, using lower dosages, other hormonal components and/or transdermal instead of oral application can reduce those risks although not demonstrated in a placebo-controlled study comparable to WHI. However, this has been shown in large case/control- and cohort-studies reflecting more practical conditions in contrast to WHI.
In this study, we examined the contribution of neutrophils and NETs to venous thrombosis in nude mice bearing human pancreatic tumors. We found that tumor-bearing mice had increased circulating neutrophil counts and levels of granulocyte-colony stimulating factor, neutrophil elastase, H3Cit and cell-free DNA compared with controls.
