Authors: de Sire A, Losco L, Cisari C, Gennari A, Boldorini R, Fusco N, Cigna E, Invernizzi M Abstract OBJECTIVE: Axillary web syndrome (AWS) is a complication of surgical procedures in breast cancer (BC) patients. This condition with poorly understood incidence and etiology is characterized by the locoregional development of scar tissue, leading to subcutaneous cording, motion impairment and pain. The early identification of patients at risk for AWS would improve their clinical management. Here, we sought to characterize the prevalence of and the risk factors associated with AWS in BC women after surgery. PATI...

Authors: Gallegos-Arreola MP, Ramírez-Hernández MA, Figuera LE, Zúñiga-González GM, Puebla-Pérez AM Abstract OBJECTIVE: The rs2234694 and 50 bp insertion/deletion (Ins/Del) polymorphisms of the SOD1 gene have been shown to be associated with many diseases, but in breast cancer (BC) their association has not been detected. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency and association of SOD1 gene polymorphisms (rs2234694 and 50 bp Ins/Del) in BC patients in the Mexican population. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The SOD1 polymorphisms were determined by Polymerase Chai...

Authors: Zingue S, Gbaweng Yaya AJ, Cisilotto J, Kenmogne LV, Talla E, Bishayee A, Njamen D, Creczynski-Pasa TB, Ndinteh DT Abstract Abyssinone V-4' methyl ether (AVME) isolated from Erythrina droogmansiana was recently reported to exhibit anti-mammary tumor effect in mice. The present work was therefore aimed at elucidating its cellular and molecular mechanisms. To achieve our goal, the cytotoxicity of AVME against tumoral and non-tumoral cell lines was evaluated by resazurin reduction test; flow cytometry allowed us to evaluate the cell cycle and mechanisms of cell death; the mitochondrial transmembrane potential...

This study aimed to investigate the antiproliferative effect of CBMP on cancer cells and its molecular mechanisms. Different cancer cell lines were treated with the ethanol extracts of CBMP for 24 hours before the cell viability and mechanism measurements. The results showed CBMP had weak activities against human pancreatic cancer cell PANC1, human lung cancer cell A549, human colon cancer cell HCT116, human liver cancer cell HepG2, human bladder cancer cell T24, and human breast cancer cell MDA-MB-231, but it significantly inhibited the growth of human gastric cancer SGC-7901 cells, caused cell apoptosis and cell cycle ar...

In conclusion, MGE, which is richer in ginsenosides, exerts a stronger anticancer action than FGE in breast cancer. The anticancer action of MGE may be closely correlated with caspase-mediated apoptosis through upregulating ROS generation. Therefore, these findings may be helpful for a clinical understanding of the anticancer mechanism of MGE for breast cancer patients. PMID: 32774407 [PubMed]

CONCLUSIONS Nomograms were generated to predict early death, with good calibration and discrimination. The predictive model can provide a reference for identifying cases with high risk of early death among stage IV breast cancer patients and play an auxiliary role in guiding individual treatment. CONCLUSIONS Exosomes mediated transfer of circ_UBE2D2 reinforced tamoxifen resistance in breast cancer by binding to miR-200a-3p, providing new insights into the boost of the effectiveness of tamoxifen on breast cancer patients. PMID: 32756532 [PubMed - in process]

AbstractPurpose of ReviewWhat is the current evidence for the role of drugs as risk factors for the development of breast cancer –related lymphoedema (BCRL) and in exacerbating existing BCRL? What are the mechanisms by which these effects occur?Recent FindingsThere is now evidence that taking calcium channel blockers (CCBs) during and after breast cancer treatment and receiving docetaxel chemotherapy are risk factors for the development of BCRL. CCBs cause oedema by increasing capillary filtration and docetaxel by inhibiting lymphatic vessel contractions.SummaryIdeally, CCBs should be avoided during and after treatme...

Authors: Rinaldi I, Muthalib A, Astowo P, Irawan B, Susanto N, Magdalena L, Maha IHRT, Wicaksono S Abstract Global widespread of current coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has emerged huge predicament to healthcare systems globally. This disease caused by a new beta-type coronavirus, known as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), may lead to systemic multiorgan dysfunction syndrome and subsequently cause death due to abundant angiotensin converting enzyme 2 as its functional receptors throughout body. Oncology patients even have a worse prognosis with greater infection susceptibili...

Authors: Pramono LA Abstract The year of 2020 teaches us to prevent is always better than to cure. It is an old phrase that is being used for decades, but it is never been implemented cordially by our society nowadays. Covid-19 is a good lesson that reminds us to carefully prevent the spread of coronavirus which is now a pandemic worldwide. People now wash their hands more often and clean, wear a mask everywhere - everytime, do physical distancing, do healthy lifestyle such as physical activity, healthy diet, and consume multivitamins. They obey the cough and sneeze etiquette. Prevention awareness is never been suc...
