In recent years, IFN-free all-oral direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) have replaced IFN-based therapy as the standard of care for HCV infection worl...

These acids have shown their very potent anti-inflammatory activities in both in vitro and in vivo animal models. Also, their anti-arthritic, anti-rheumatic, anti-diarrhoeal, anti-hyperlipidemic, anti-asthmatic, anticancer, anti-microbial, analgesic activity, hepatoprotective, and immunomodulatory activities ha...

This study aimed to synthesize novel polymeric nanoparticles (NPs) bound with cisplatin for the treatment of oral cancer. The NPs were synthesized from N-vinylpyrrolidone (NVP) and acrylic acid (AA) using 2 different methods based on a surfactant-free emulsion polymerization reaction. An azo initiator (V50) and bisacrylamide crosslinker were used in the reaction to create the NPs. The morphology, physicochemical characteristics, drug loading, and in vitro release were evaluated. Moreover, the cytotoxicity, death induction mechanism, and in vitro intracellular accumulation of cisplatin in HN22 cells were also investigated. ...

Authors: Park SK, Chun HK, Park C Abstract Introduction: With the advent of targeted therapy, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has recently approved several oral anticancer medications (OAMs) for breast cancer (BC). Despite the improved effectiveness of those OAMs, the high financial burden is an issue. Evidence from cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) can provide valuable information for decision-makers when deciding whether to use these high-priced medications. Many CEAs on OAMs have been conducted using various analytical approaches and cost-effectiveness thresholds (CETs). However, there is no comprehensive ...

AbstractThe human oral and gut microbiomes influence health via competition for a distinct niche in the body with pathogens, via metabolic capabilities that increase host digestive capacity and generate compounds engaged in signaling pathways and modulation of immune system functions. Old age alters our metabolic and regenerative capacity. Following recruitment of 65 human subjects in the age range of 70 to 82, we discerned healthy aging (HA) and non-healthy aging (NHA) cohorts discordant in the occurrence of one or more major diseases: (1) cancer, (2) acute or chronic cardiovascular diseases, (3) acute or chronic pulmonar...

This study evaluated predictive factors for the feasibility of oral intake in adjuvant CCRT for patients with LASCCHN.MethodsThis study retrospectively analyzed 117 LASCCHN patients who underwent surgery followed by adjuvant CCRT with cisplatin at Shizuoka Cancer Center between April 2008 and December 2018. To investigate predictive factors for the feasibility of oral intake, tumor factors, treatment factors and social factors were included in multivariate analyses.ResultsOf the 117 patients, 25 received total laryngectomy and 92 received other surgery. In multivariate analysis, total laryngectomy [HR (hazard ratio) 0.09,P...

CONCLUSIONS: High expression and accelerated efflux transporter activity of ABCG2/BCRP in the small intestine are expected to contribute to the ineffectiveness of orally administered intact tablets in cases with treatment-resistant Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and crushed tablets can be more effective for some of these patients. AbstractIdentification of effective targeted therapies for recurrent/metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) remains an unmet medical need. A patient with platinum‐refractory recurrent oral cavity HNSCC underwent comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) that identified an activating MET mutation (R1004). The patient was treated with the oral MET tyrosine kinase inhibitor crizotinib with rapid response to treatment.Based on this index case, we determined the frequency of MET alterations in 1,637 HNSCC samples, which had been analyzed with hybrid capture‐based CGP performed in the routine course of clinical...

ConclusionOverall hyperplasia incidence is increasing. While BMI is elevated, there was no upward trend observed. Does the insidious decline in age demographic suggest that hyperplasia is occurring in younger women? Our review did not demonstrate a continuous increase in atypia, however there was a higher incidence in the 2013 group, who were also the most obese. Adherence to best practice surveillance in our hospitals was falling short.
