Authors: Yelgeç NS, Karataş MB, Karabay CY, Çanga Y, Şimşek B, Çalık AN, Emre A Abstract Background: Lead aVR provides prognostic information in various settings for patients with cardiovascular diseases. The present study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of a positive T wave in lead aVR (TaVR) for patients with acute pulmonary embolism (APE). Methods: We screened a total of 412 consecutive patients who were hospitalised with a diagnosis of APE between 2008 and 2018. We investigated electrocardiograms (ECGs) for the presence of a positive TaVR and classified other abnormal ECG find...

Then I rotated through IM as a 3rd year medical student, realized I would have to do 3 years of caring about CHF and COPD and DM and all those other IM things and noped the hell on out of there. It was a process of elimination for me in regards to what I ended up in. In regards to the bolded... Click to expand... Authors: Cruz FF, Rocco PRM Abstract Introduction: Mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) have been shown to improve lung function and survival in chronic inflammatory lung diseases, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), and silicosis. Areas covered: This review covers rationale for the use of MSC therapy, along with preclinical studies and clinical trials with MSC therapy in chronic lung diseases. Expert opinion: MSC therapy holds promise for the treatment of chronic lung diseases, mainly when administered at early...

ABSTRACT Objective: Preoperative functional evaluation is central to optimizing the identification of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who are candidates for surgery. The minute ventilation/carbon dioxide output (VE/VCO2) slope has proven to be a predictor of surgical complications and mortality. Pulmonary rehabilitation programs (PRPs) could influence short-term outcomes in patients with COPD undergoing lung resection. Our objective was to evaluate the effects of a PRP on the VE/VCO2 slope in a cohort of patients with COPD undergoing lung resection for NSCLC. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 25 consec...

Conclusions: The effects of HIIT appear to be comparable to those of continuous exercise in relation to functional and cardiovascular responses. However, our findings should be interpreted with caution because the studies evaluated present a high risk of bias, which could have a direct influence on the results.RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar e comparar os efeitos do high-intensity interval training (HIIT, treinamento intervalado de alta intensidade) aos do exerc ício contínuo sobre a capacidade funcional e variáveis cardiovasculares em pacientes com DPOC por meio de revisão sistemática e meta-an...
