Evaluation of Use of Technologies to Facilitate Medical Chart Review

ConclusionNew technologies including OCR and NLP are currently in use by various organizations involved in medical chart review. While technology-enhanced approaches could scale up capacity to validate key variables and make information about important clinical variables from medical records more generally available for research purposes, they often require considerable customization when employed in a distributed data environment with multiple, diverse healthcare settings.

CONCLUSIONS: Small bowel obstruction resulting from LAGB tubing is an uncommon complication which was reported in few cases. Although bariatric surgery currently represents the best treatment option for morbid obesity and its related- diseases, peri- and post-operative complications have always to be taken into account. We report a patient with glucagonoma differentiation into a malignant form after 13 years. A 63-year-old asymptomatic man was evaluated for an enhancing lesion at the distal pancreas. Physical examination was normal. Laboratory values were normal except for an elevated serum glucagon level (206 pg/mL, Ref. 50 –150). Somatostatin and other tumor markers were normal. A PET scan confirmed abnormal uptake at the distal pancreas, correlating with a CT scan. The patient underwent laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy with resection of a 2.6-cm mass which predominantly expressed glucagon. Serum glucagon levels n ormalized imme...

Non‑invasive monitoring of paclitaxel and lenvatinib efficacy against anaplastic thyroid cancer in orthotopic SCID mouse models using small‑animal FDG‑PET/CT. Oncol Rep. 2020 Aug 07;: Authors: Aoyama M, Takizawa H, Otani T, Inoue S, Kawakita N, Tsuboi M, Bando Y, Uehara H, Kondo K, Tangoku A Abstract Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is a rare type of thyroid carcinoma with a poor prognosis. Thus, suitable preclinical tumor models are required for the development of new ATC therapies. In the present study, orthotopic tumor xenograft models were established using ATC cell lines and SCID mice, and...

MRI tracing of ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticle‑labeled endothelial progenitor cells for repairing atherosclerotic vessels in rabbits. Mol Med Rep. 2020 Aug 13;: Authors: Wei H, Tan T, Cheng L, Liu J, Song H, Li L, Zhang K Abstract Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) have been discovered to be relevant to the prognosis of cardiovascular diseases. Previous research has demonstrated that EPCs serve vital roles in the occurrence and development of atherosclerosis. Significant improvements have been made in MRI technology and in the experimental use of EPCs for therapeutic angiogenesi...

Authors: Ossareh S, Bagheri M, Abbasi M, Abolfathi S, Bohlooli A Abstract INTRODUCTION: Seven months after the emergence of SARS-COV-2 virus, there is paucity of data regarding the epidemiology of the virus in hemodialysis patients. We aim to present the results of the screening program implied after outbreak of COVID-19 in a referral hemodialysis ward. METHODS: We started clinical screening and obligatory mask wearing for dialysis patients and personnel on 20-Feb-2020. However 11 symptomatic COVID-19 patients emerged till day +36. On days +39 and +40 a screening program was implied including measurement of SAR...

Authors: Chang HW, Kim SH, Hakim AR, Chung S, Kim DJ, Lee JH, Kim JS, Lim C, Park KH Abstract Background: Although there are studies on the growth of thoracic aorta in the general population, research based on serial computed tomography scan is rare. We investigated the influence of patient age and anthropometric variables on the size and growth rate of the thoracic aorta in the general hospital population. Methods: Data on 2,353 adults [2003-2014] who underwent ≥2 serial computed tomography examinations with at least a 6-year interval were analyzed. There were 1,444 men (61%), and the mean age was 58±...

Authors: Zhou Z, Dong Y, Li C, Wang D, Lv Y, Lv P, Pang Y Abstract Background: The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal puncture site of computed tomography (CT)-guided transthoracic needle aspiration biopsy for the diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) by the comparison of clinical and radiological characteristics of TB patients stratified to different histopathological results. Methods: We retrospectively analysed the data of clinically diagnosed TB patients with negative laboratory results between July 2016 and June 2018. Biopsy specimens were obtained from patients for Ziehl-Neelsen (Z-N) staining an...

Authors: Liu Y, Yu Z, Yu P, Ito A, Gonzalez M, Hirai K, Polaczek M, Liu H Abstract Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) lobectomy, especially uniportal VATS, is increasingly used for pulmonary sequestration (PS). However, there are few descriptions of safe handling of the aberrant artery with atherosclerosis, especially the diameter of arteries exceeds than 2.0 cm, under uniportal VATS approach. Here we report a 56-year-old man who was diagnosed with pulmonary sequestration following trauma. The patient had a long history of cough with purulent sputum. One month before the trauma, he had copious expectoratio...
