Conclusions: We concluded that that patients who develop hypoglycaemia may have an equally bad prognosis or even worse than those who develop hyperglycaemia during the period of critical illness. CGM devices record tissue glucose levels continuously, and may be useful as a 'tissue hypoglycaemia' alert. PMID: 31299838 [PubMed - in process]

Conclusions: Overall, Periventricular WMHs of grade 2 and over were seen in 19/34 patients, and in 7/24 controls (P value 0.044). Significantly higher grades of PVWMHs were seen in hypertensives as compared to nonhypertensives in the case group, and in women compared to men. In the control group, hypertension had no effect on severity of PVWMHs. Among both Diabetics and non-diabetics, no difference in PVWMHs was found between the case and control groups. DWMHs were, conversely, seen only in the control group. Overall, over a quarter of cognitively normal older persons had WM hyperintensities of grade 2 and over on MRI brai...

Conclusion: Neuropsychiatric illness increased odds of being frail on a predominantly physical/motoric measure, but only when symptomatic. Lack of association with asymptomatic impairment may reflect the importance of functional limitation to frailty, or possibly a unique resilience phenotype. Understanding why sex and symptomatic neuropsychiatric illness are associated with frailty will be important in managing HIV-associated morbidity in aging populations.

Conclusions: While MS was not associated with PD, diabetes, particularly poorly controlled diabetes, was associated with an increased rate. Further research into the interaction of PD and metabolic disease is warranted.

We present the case of a 69-year-old woman with diabetes mellitus, left bundle branch block, and obesity who develops cardiogenic shock after undergoing myocardial perfusion imaging and diagnostic left heart catheterization, but prior to coronary revascularization. This case highlights the risk of cardiac decompensation awaiting surgery in patients with multivessel coronary artery disease. It also emphasizes the subtleties involved in imaging patients with diabetes mellitus and left bundle branch block, as well as the risk of developing complete heart block in the setting of ischemia with underlying conduction disease.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) can significantly improve the outcome of ischemic conditions in IDDM patients and reduce vascular complications. The aim of o...

This study aimed to investigate the association between the rs2975760 and rs3792267 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the calpain 10 (CAPN10) gene and gestational diabetes mellitus. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study included 138 patients with gestational diabetes mellitus and 152 healthy pregnant women. Venous blood was separated, and the DNA was extracted. The rs2975760 and rs3792267SNP polymorphisms of CAPN10 were detected using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The frequencies of different genotypes in patients with gestational diabetes mellitus and healthy pregnant women were determined, and the relationship betwee...
