Oregon insurers report strong first-quarter results
Oregon health insurers enjoyed a much more profitable first quarter this year than last, thanks to the suspension of an Affordable Care Act fee.
Six of the seven insurers in the commercial market made a profit in their underwriting business — the income from policies, excluding investments. Four that were profitable in the first quarter had lost money a year earlier, when they booked the Health Insurance Provider fee, according to statem ents filed with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
