Our study sought to examine environmental and socioeconomic factors of asthma among children in an AI community.MethodsThis case-control study included children with physician-diagnosed asthma and age-matched controls, ages 6 through 17 years, in an AI community. Diagnosis and clinical characteristics were obtained from medical record review. ConclusionsIn asthmatic patients, nocturnal CoFr can be associated with BHR, was significantly higher before treatment, but improved more after treatment compared to non-asthmatic patients. Monitoring nocturnal CoFr may provide unique and valuable information on making an early prediction of therapeutic effects in asthma.

CONCLUSIONS: The present study demonstrates that inhaled capsaicin induces changes in lung function, both in patients with CIC and in patients with asthma, when IOS, which measures changes also in the peripheral airways, is used. IOS appears to be a more sensitive tool than spirometry for the detection of airway impairment in airway provocation studies. CONCLUSIONS: The cold-sensitive asthmatic patients experience frequent recurrent and/or aggravated symptoms and have obvious lung function impairment.
