Teens with obesity find artificial intelligence coach helpful in weight-loss program
(Nemours) Researchers at Nemours Children's Health System have found that an artificial intelligence (AI) behavioral coach, nicknamed Tess (X2ai, Inc), is feasible and useful for behavioral counseling of adolescent patients in a weight management program. The study, published today in the journal Translational Behavioral Medicine, demonstrates adolescents' willingness and positive reaction to engaging in SMS text conversations with the chatbot technology that simulates human interactions.
In conclusion our results show a large screening gap that would result from selective BP screening only in those with overweight, obesity, or parental hypertension. PMID: 31186951 [PubMed]
CONCLUSIONS: The immunohistochemical expression of TGF-β1 may be complementary to routine methods of liver fibrosis evaluation. PMID: 31187872 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
Conclusions Our study demonstrates the beneficial effect of dermolipectomies and the consequential weight loss on postural stability of obese men. Such findings may support the hypothesis that dermolipectomy may improve postural stability with and without vision. The data demonstrate that the benefits are related to the magnitude of the resected tissue.
Purpose Panniculectomy procedures have been reported to significantly improve quality of life, increase mobility, and improve hygiene in patients with a significant pannus formation. The primary aims of this study were to determine which preoperative risk factors may be used to differentiate postoperative complication rate among patient cohorts and to validate utilization of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) risk calculator in patients undergoing panniculectomies. Methods This retrospective study included all patients who underwent a panniculectomy procedure a...
Conclusions Gender affirmation chest surgery can be safely offered using a drain-free or “masculoplasty” technique. Compared with historical data, the use of progressive tension sutures decreases the incidence of hematoma, the need for acute reoperation, and other complications.
After decades of research consistently linked obesity and cardiovascular disease, researchers at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden have finally used 'Mendelian randomization' to prove the link is causal.
Conclusions: Results highlight the important interplay between personal, social environmental, and physical environmental factors to explain (in)active behaviours of bariatric patients. The findings of this article could be useful for future research and interventions aimed at promoting PA in bariatric patients. PMID: 31187702 [PubMed - in process]
BACKGROUND. Obesity and cancer are recognized worldwide health threats. While there is no reported causal relationship, the increasing frequency of both conditions results in a higher incidence of obese patients who are being treated for cancer. Physiological data indicate there is a relationship between obesity and susceptibility to pain; however, currently there are no specific pharmacological interventions. OBJECTIVE. To evaluate the self-reported intensity of postoperative pain in obese and non-obese lung cancer who receive either thoracotomy or VATS surgical therapy. MATERIAL AND METHODS. In 50 obese [mean Body Ma...
In conclusion, these results provided new and robust evidence for revealing the hepatoxicity of BDE-47 under obese condition and illustrated the underlying mechanism of BDE-47 induced liver fibrosis.Graphical abstract
Conclusion: Together, our findings uncover the roles of Fto on depression and provide insights into microbiota-related biological mechanisms underlying the association between obesity and depression.
