Atypical presentation of fibroepithelial polyp: a report of two cases

ABSTRACT Fibroepithelial polyps are benign non-epithelial tumors arising from mesodermal tissue and are commonly found on the skin. They can develop on the eyelid and surrounding area and rarely appear at other sites. While most cutaneous cases are diagnosed incidentally, the lesions may be symptomatic based on their location. The etiology of fibroepithelial polyps is not fully understood but may involve trauma, chronic irritation, allergic factors, and developmental or congenital causes. Although fibroepithelial polyps are benign lesions, they can be malignant in extremely rare cases. Herein we discuss 2 cases of fibroepithelial polyp with an atypical presentation and their treatment.RESUMO P ólipos fibroepiteliais são tumores benignos não-epiteliais que surgem do tecido mesodérmico e são comumente encontrados na pele. The sequence of events leading to the development of colorectal cancer, currently the third most common malignancy in Western countries, is effectively disrupted by the resection of its precursor lesions. Colonoscopy is the mainstay in lesion detection, and endoscopic polypectomy is the conventional therapeutic response for the overwhelming majority of identified polyps. Approximately 2% of lesions are larger (>20  mm) and are laterally spreading lesions (LSLs). EMR is considered the standard of care for the majority of these because it has been proved to be safer, less resource-intensive, and less expensive than surgery.

ConclusionThese findings demonstrate that LHQW granules treatment may control the inflammation in nasal mucosa and result in the improvement of CRSsNP. This Chinese medicine might become a promising therapy in the management of this disease.

Computed tomography (CT) of a 68-year-old man showed multiple small nodules in the bilateral lungs (maximum 14 mm in the left upper lobe). CT-guided biopsy of left upper lobe lesion showed no tumor or granuloma. Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT showed multiple nodules with background-to-mild FDG-avid activity, and an incidental left scrotal skin lesion with intensely increased accumulation of 18F-FDG (SUVmax, 11.7), suspected malignant. After urologist consultation, local dermatological findings suggested a huge wart. Excision was done, and pathology concluded nodular papillary fibroepithelial polyp with acute and chronic inflammation.
