Care home worker saves fiancee's life by giving her one of his kidneys

Geraldine Chingosho, 22, from Leicester, was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease soon after meeting Aldo Cataldi in 2017. She said: 'He saved my life, now I can't wait to spend it with him.'

Authors: Chillo P, Ismail A, Sanyiwa A, Ruggajo P, Kamuhabwa A Abstract Background: Hypertensive retinopathy is a known marker of cardiovascular disease, and among unselected patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) more severe retinopathy has been associated with lower estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). This association has, however, not been widely studied among nondiabetic hypertensive patients with CKD, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. We aimed to determine the prevalence and severity of hypertensive retinopathy and its relationship with eGFR among nondiabetic CKD patients seen at Muhimbili Nationa...

ConclusionsPatients in intermediate stages do not receive follow-up with a multidisciplinary team at the recommended frequency. The preventive approach of the progression of renal disease in the intermediate stage in the studied municipality was not within the recommendations of the Ministry of Health.

Conclusion MethodologyThere were 4 clinical trials approved at the National University Malaysia in collaboration with Cytopeutics (Cyberjaya, Malaysia) which provided the mesenchymal stromal cells (Cyto-MSC) for treatment of acute stroke, heart failure, diabetes with critical limb ischemia and severe deforming osteoarthritis. All patients received 65-130 × 106 Cyto-MSC intravenously. Severity of chronic kidney disease is based on baseline estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and serum creatinine which are markers of renal dysfunction. These and other blood tests including fasting blood sugar (FBS) and Hba1...

Here we demonstrate a reproducible method with minimal artifacts for single-nucleus Droplet-based RNA sequencing (snDrop-Seq) that we use to resolve thirty distinct cell populations in human adult kidney. We define molecular transition states along more than ten nephron segments spanning two major kidney region...

CONCLUSIONS: YF acute severe cases show a generalised involvement of different organs (liver, spleen, heart, kidneys, intestines and pancreas), and different parameters were related to outcome. Factor V and lipase are independent variables associated with death, reinforcing the importance of hemorrhagic events due to fulminant liver failure and pointing to pancreatitis as a relevant event in the outcome of the disease. Authors: Herrera-Añazco P, Atamari-Anahui N, Flores-Benites V Abstract We conducted a descriptive and ecological study that evaluated the relationship between the prevalence trend of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), the number of nephrologists, and the number of hemodialysis services of the Ministry of Health (MINSA). The study was based on a secondary analysis of the care provided by MINSA, the Observatory of Human Resources in Health, and the hemodialysis services registered as Health Service Providers of the Intangible Health Solidarity Fund (FISSAL, in Spanish). The adjusted prevalence of CKD ...

Conclusions. Our genetic study identified a novel association at NMT2 for CKD and showed for the first time strong associations of the APOL1 variants with ESKD across multi-ethnic populations. Our findings suggest differences in genetic effects across CKD severity and provide information for study design of genetic studies of CKD in diverse populations.
