Validation of biochemical scores for liver steatosis before and one year after sleeve gastrectomy

Bariatric surgery is a potential treatment for liver steatosis in morbidly obese patients, showing an improvement in around 90% of cases of fatty liver after surgery. Liver biopsy is the gold standard method to monitor liver steatosis. Imaging tests, such as Magnetic Resonance (MR) spectroscopy, have shown a good accuracy in the diagnosis of liver steatosis. Several biochemical markers have been proposed as diagnostic alternatives to evaluate fatty liver.
