34. “Shoot First and Call Whatever You hit the Target” - How to Improve Outcomes in DBS for Depression

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a promising technique for modulating circuits underlying neuropsychiatric disorders. Since its implementation in mood disorders, multiple case series demonstrated positive results in the subcallosal cingulate cortex. Unfortunately, an industry sponsored clinical trial in the subcallosal cingulate did not replicate these findings. The identification of biomarkers is crucial for the future of this treatment.
