CONCLUSION The available evidence, limited to low evidence level case reports and series, indicates cutaneous laser treatment during pregnancy is safe for both mother and fetus. Furthermore, laser physics and optics dictate there should theoretically be no risk of fetal laser exposure from commonly used cutaneous lasers.

ConclusionsHuman IGF-1 gene may be a candidate gene for GDM and T2DM risk, as our study suggests a significant association between the IGF-I rs35767 and rs5742612 polymorphisms and the risk of T2DM and GDM in pregnant women, whereas there was no association for rs2288377.

Hence, the maternal immune system must adapt: successful pregnancy requires the tolerance of genetically different (allogenic) cells while the mother’s immune competence is maintained. This tolerance is ensured through multiple overlapping and occasionally redundant innate and adaptive immune mecha...

The number of infants born with HIV in the United States has decreased for years, approaching the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s incidence goal for eliminating perinatal HIV transmission. We reviewed recent literature on perinatal HIV transmission in the United States. Among perinatally HIV-exposed infants (whose mothers have HIV, without regard to infants’ HIV diagnosis), prenatal and natal antiretroviral use has increased, maternal HIV infection is more frequently diagnosed before pregnancy and breast-feeding is uncommon. In contrast, mothers of infants with HIV are tested at a lower rate for HI...

Conclusion: Misconceptions exist regarding safety/efficacy of antenatal vaccination, and framing information towards the child’s safety may increase uptake. Education of HCPs is essential, and vaccine promotion should be incorporated into routine antenatal care, with an emphasis on women from ethnic minorities. Administration of vaccines in primary care presents logistical barriers; however, support for alternative sites appears low among HCPs.
