Conclusions/SignificanceDENV is a common etiology of acute febrile illness requiring hospitalization in Indonesia. Diagnostic accuracy at clinical sites merits optimization since misdiagnosis of DENV infection and over-estimation of dengue can negatively impact management and outcomes. Mutation at the annealing site of the serotyping primer may confound diagnosis. Clinicians should consider following diagnostic algorithms that include DENV confirmatory testing. Policy-makers should prioritize development of laboratory capacity for diagnosis of DENV.

Barbosa, Licarion Pinto, Mário César Ugulino de Araújo, Márcio José Coelho PontesABSTRACTAedes aegypti mosquitoes are vectors of diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, zika and yellow fever. With the increase in the incidence of these diseases the population has resorted to the use of repellents searching to protect themselves from mosquito attack. The Brazilian market offers a wide variety of products with different active principles in varying levels of concentration, tim...

To date, there has been limited success in addressing the characteristically dysregulated host response once it is underway. Furthermore, virus-induced sepsis remains poorly appreciated, and treatment strategies are similarly limited to supportive measures. Prior in vitro and murine studies demonstrate antivira...

This Viewpoint uses experience with rotavirus vaccine –induced intussusception and dengue virus vaccine–induced shock syndrome to discuss issues of disease prevalence and severity underlying recommendations the vaccines be used widely, and it reviews the systems in place to monitor vaccine safety that broadly favor vaccine benefits over risks to in dividuals and society.

Conclusions/significanceOur study shows that exposure to bites ofAe.albopictus orAe.aegypti evokes in mice species-specific IgG responses to al34k2 or ae34k2, respectively. Deeper understanding of duration of antibody response and validation in natural conditions of human exposure toAedes mosquitoes are certainly needed. However, our findings point to the al34k2 salivary protein as a promising potential candidate for the development of immunoassays to evaluate human exposure toAe.albopictus. This would be a step forward in the establishment of a serological toolbox for the simultaneous assessment of human exposure toAedes ...

THE ACTIVITY OF AURORA KINASE B IS REQUIRED FOR DENGUE VIRUS RELEASE. Virus Res. 2019 Oct 15;:197777 Authors: Perez-Olais JH, Ruiz-Jimenez F, Calderon-Garcia EJ, de Jesus-González LA, Hernández-Rivas R, Del Angel RM Abstract Flaviviruses, such as Dengue (DENV), Zika, Yellow Fever, Japanese Encephalitis and West Nile are important pathogens with high morbidity and mortality. The last estimation indicates that ∼390 millions of people are infected by DENV per year. The DENV replicative cycle occurs mainly in the cytoplasm of the infected cells and different cytoplasmic, nuclear and mito...
