Munoz-Zuluaga, Mary Caitlin King, Panayotis Ledakis, Vadim Gushchin, Michelle Sittig, Carol Nieroda, Katherine Zambrano-Vera, Armando SardiAbstractBackgroundThe role of systemic chemotherapy (SC) before cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS/HIPEC) in appendiceal high-grade mucinous carcinoma peritonei (HGMCP) is controversial. We analyzed the effect of SC prior to CRS/HIPEC in HGMCP.MethodsA prospective database of CRS/HIPEC procedures for HGMCP without signet ring cells and with signet ring cells (HGMCP-S) from 1998 to 2017 was reviewed. Exclusion criteria was prior surgery>5 regions or>2 regimens of prior SC. Perioperative variables were analyzed.ResultsThere were 140 HGMCP/HGMCP-S identified: 64 with prior SC (preSC) and 76 without (noSC). Groups were balanced for lymph node status, complete cytoreduction rate, disease burden, complications, and postoperative SC. PreSC had more HGMCP-S, moderately/poorly differentiated histology, and longer time-to-surgery (median: 6 vs 2 months, p

Authors: Jang Y, Cho EY, Cho SY Abstract Mucinous carcinoma (MC) is a rare subtype of breast cancer, which is composed of tumor cells floating in the abundant extracellular mucin. This form of cancer is usually estrogen receptor/progesterone receptor positive and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) negative. Here, we present a case of HER2-positive MC with an unusual signet ring cell differentiation. It is very rare that a breast tumor consists entirely of signet ring cells. The tumor showed pathologic complete response (pCR) after neoadjuvant chemotherapy with trastuzumab and pertuzumab. pCR of HER2-po...

Authors: Matulonis UA Abstract The treatment of newly diagnosed or recurrent ovarian cancer has changed significantly in recent years, with an increased number of treatment options available. Surgery and combination treatment with carboplatin and paclitaxel are the standard of care for patients with newly diagnosed disease, although the use of neoadjuvant chemotherapy is increasing. Clinical strategies have also evolved along with the understanding that ovarian cancer is not one disease but rather comprises several with different histologic and underlying genetic characteristics. The most common histologic type is ...

Abstract Mucinous carcinoma of the breast represents 1%-4% of all breast cancers. The World Health Organization classification divides this type of tumour into three different subtypes: mucinous carcinoma, mucinous carcinoma with tall columnar cells (mucinous cystadenocarcinoma and columnar cell mucinous carcinoma) and signet ring cell carcinoma. A 74-year-old woman presented a tumour with inflammatory features in the upper outer quadrant of her left breast, 7 cm in diameter. The core biopsy showed infiltrating ductal carcinoma of no specific type. The tumour-node-metastasis clinical staging was T4cN3M0 (Stage III...

We report the largest series of IMCs treated with NAC, and report a characteristic, but not well recognised, pattern of pathological response. Methods and resultsOur series included seven patients with IMC treated with NAC. Three patients presented with locally advanced disease, three patients had tumours that were HER‐2/neu‐positive, and four patients had tumours with admixed mucinous and micropapillary features. Clinical and imaging assessment of response showed persistent and, in some cases, progressive disease, despite evidence of significant pathological response in these cases. Pathological assessment after NAC d...

Objective Gastric-type mucinous carcinoma (GAS) is a novel variant of mucinous carcinoma of the uterine cervix, characterized by aggressive clinical behavior and absence of high-risk human papillomavirus. We conducted this study to evaluate the chemosensitivity of GAS compared with that of usual-type endocervical adenocarcinoma (UEA) in patients who had been enrolled in our previous study. Methods Of 52 patients from our previous phase 2 study (SGSG005) of neoadjuvant chemotherapy with docetaxel and carboplatin for stage IB2 to IIB nonsquamous cervical cancer, 47 (stage IB2, 12; stage IIA2, 7; stage IIB, 28) were enro...

Logistic regression was used to predict chemotherapy type. Cumulative incidence of toxicities, dose reduction, and treatment interruption we...

Colorectal cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide. The liver is the most common site of distant metastases, and surgery is the only potentially curative treatment, although the recurrence rate following surgery is high. In order to define prognosis after surgery, many histopathological features have been identified in the primary tumour. In turn, pathologists routinely report specific findings to guide oncologists on the decision to recommend adjuvant therapy. In general, the pathological report of resected colorectal liver metastases is limited to confirmation of the malignancy and details regarding the margin statu...
