High-field intraoperative MRI and glioma surgery: results after the first 100 consecutive patients

ConclusionIoMRI neuronavigated surgery provided maximal EOR whatever the type of glioma and location. IoMRI was all the more useful for non- or minimally enhancing tumors. The step by step surgical resection, introducing the concept of “staged volume” surgery, ensured a high security for the surgeon and low permanent morbidity for the patients.

In this study, the lung adenocarcinoma patients and granuloma patients were treated as positive samples and negative samples, respectively. We used weighted accuracy to evaluate the RIPPER prediction performance, i.e., the average of the accuracies of positive samples and negative samples. Results The Discriminative MicroRNAs Between Lung Adenocarcinoma and Granuloma Patients in Whole Plasma, EV, and EV-Free Plasma The miRNA expression profiles of lung adenocarcinoma and granuloma patients in whole plasma, EV and EV-free plasma were analyzed separately. In whole plasma, the top 10 discriminative miRNAs were hsa-miR-223-...

In this study, we evaluated the effect of auranofin on the radiosensitivity of intestinal epithelial cells. The treatment with a combination of 1 μM auranofin and 5 Gy ionizing radiation showed clear additive effects on caspase 3 cleavage and apoptotic DNA fragmentation in IEC-6 cells, and auranofin administration significantly aggravated the radiation-induced intestinal injury in mice. Auranofin treatment also resulted in the activation of the unfolded protein response and in the inhibition of thioredoxin reductase, which is a key component of the cellular antioxidant system. Pre-treatment with N-acetyl cysteine, a wel...

In this study, the immunohistochemistry results demonstrated that DEPDC1 was high-expressed in breast cancer tissues compared with the paired adjacent normal breast tissues, and its tendency at protein level was consistent with mRNA level from TCGA data. Moreover, DEPDC1 mRNA level revealed the strongest association with poor prognosis and development in breast cancer. In vitro assays showed that DEPDC1 overexpression resulted in significant promotion of proliferation by regulating cell cycle in MCF-7 cells, whilst an opposite effect was found in the MDA-MB-231 cells with DEPDC1 deletion. Notably, further investigation ind...

We examined the following three conditions: DMEM high glucose which contained 4.5 mg/ml glucose, independent of serum, DMEM low glucose which contained 1.0 mg/ml glucose, independent of serum. And, DMEM no glucose which contained 0.0 mg/ml glucose, independent of serum. DMEM is referred to as glucose “free,” however some glucose was actually present due to the FBS. The glucose concentration in the FBS used was 1.04 mg/ml. We calculate 0.0937 mg/ml glucose was present in the media under all conditions due to the addition of serum. Quantification of ROS Levels ROS are widely evaluated in tissue culture using di...

Abstract Malignant glioma is the most common primary malignancy in the brain. It is aggressive, highly invasive, and destructive. Studies have shown that sevoflurane can affect the invasion and migration of a variety of malignant tumors. However, its effects on human glioma cells and related mechanisms are not clear. Cultured U251 and U87 cells were pretreated with sevoflurane. The effect of sevoflurane on cell proliferation, migration, apoptosis and invasion ability were evaluated by MTT, wound healing assay, cell apoptosis and transwell assays, respectively. miRNA-124-3p and ROCK1 signaling pathway genes express...

Jakola AS Abstract OBJECTIVEExtent of resection (EOR) and residual tumor volume are linked to prognosis in low-grade glioma (LGG) and there are various methods for facilitating safe maximal resection in such patients. In this prospective study the authors assess radiological and clinical results in consecutive patients with LGG treated with 3D ultrasound (US)-guided resection under general anesthesia.METHODSConsecutive LGGs undergoing primary surgery guided with 3D US between 2008 and 2015 were included. All LGGs were classified according to the WHO 2016 classification system. Pre- and postoperative volumetric as...

ConclusionThese findings suggest that resection of glioblastoma using AC is associated with significantly greater extent of resection and less late minor postoperative complications as compared with craniotomy under GA without the use of surgery adjuncts. However, due to certain limitations inherent to our study design (selection bias) and the absence of the use of surgery adjuncts in the GA group, we advocate for a prospective study to further build upon this evidence and study the use of AC in glioblastoma patients.
