Early immunologic changes during the onset of atopic dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis (AD), which is commonly called eczema, is the most common chronic inflammatory skin disease. The pipeline of new targeted treatments is currently expanding, a development that is largely based on our increasing understanding of disease mechanisms. Mechanistic insights have long been based on long-standing adult AD. Recently, studies also investigated early pediatric AD at disease onset, and revealed several differences in barrier and immune properties when compared with long-standing adult AD.
