Introduction

One of the most interesting fields of research and development in cardiac surgery is focusing on aortic diseases with special attention to valve sparing approaches and aortic valve repair techniques. Since the introduction of the first valve sparing procedure for the treatment of root aneurysms with pliable bicuspid or tricuspid aortic cusps, several approaches have been described and applied in a wide spectrum of diseases and patients, including the youngest ones. The main reason for this growing interest lays in the fact that the preservation of a native valve can guarantee a better quality of life and fewer valve-related complications compared to a prosthetic valve.
