ConclusionsThe benefits of FENO-based management are attenuated among obese mothers and those with excess GWG, indicating the importance of weight management in contributing to improved asthma management in pregnancy.

This study describes pregnancy outcome of a population of foetuses with increased NT that were examined in a medical practice by a single observer over a period of 10 years with state of the art ultrasound equipment. We observed a relatively large proportion of foetuses with abnormal karyotype. In euploid foetuses, increased NT was associated with a wide range of foetal malformations and genetic syndromes. What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? Even mildly increased NT thickness is associated with an adverse pregnancy outcome, underlining the importance of thorough...

The reluctance to operate on pregnant women is not new and is based on limited and flawed data.1 We fear that the conclusions advanced in the recent publication by Fong and colleagues2 may serve as unjustified support for such delay in surgery, exposing pregnant women to complications.

We thank Tolcher and colleagues for their interest in our study.1 However, we disagree with their position that cholecyststectomy in the third trimester is safe for both the pregnant woman and the baby. In their review article,2 old, uncontrolled, and underpowered studies are quoted to justify their recommendation to proceed with surgery during pregnancy. These same inadequate studies were used to justify current guidelines.3 In comparison, our analysis of nearly 18,000 pregnant women undergoing cholecystectomy in the third trimester or the 90 days after delivery is properly controlled and powered to draw appropriate conclusions.

Papageorghiou, Zarko AlfirevicAbstractBackgroundSevere early-onset fetal growth restriction (FGR) predisposes to fetal death, neonatal death, neonatal morbidity and neurodisability. The use of placental biomarkers has been proposed for risk stratification in pre-eclampsia, but they could be equally useful in fetal...

We examined several parameters including reproductive performance of dams, physical development, postnatal reflex ontogeny, locomotor behavior, neuromuscular strength, anxiety, anhedonic behavior, cognitive abilities and microglia populations in the F1 progeny. The study showed improved reproductive performance of Spirulina supplemented protein malnourished dams, accelerated acquisition of neurological reflexes, better physical appearance, enhanced neuromuscular strength, improved spatial learning and memory and partly normalized PMN induced hyperactivity, anxiolytic and anhedonic behavior in offspring. These beneficial ef...

ConclusionsThis was presumed to be a rare case of twin pregnancy by triploid embryo formation, followed by loss of an allele due to postzygotic diploidization, development of a diploid fetus, and development of another fetus from a separate embryo. Because of the existence of cases such as this one with a diploid fetus, but without a normal pregnancy coexistent with a complete hydatidiform mole, diagnosis by genetic analysis is required for prognosis.

In this study, we determined the impacts of growth pattern to the end of the mating period and sire genetics on the reproductive performance of Merino ewe lambs. Five hundred ewe lambs with full pedigree records were managed under commercial conditions from weaning and weighed 43.5 kg at the start of the mating period with an average age of 224 days. The ewe lambs were offered a moderate or high feed allowance to achieve target growth rates of 100 or 200 g/day during a 46-day mating period. They were then recombined and scanned for pregnancy status 60 days after the mating period. At the individual animal lev...

Authors: Appak Ö, Manyaslı M, Cengiz MM, Deliloğlu B, Karaoğlu Asrak H, Özlü C, Sayıner AA Abstract The screening for syphilis during pregnancy is important to prevent intrauterine transmission and complications. Prozone phenomenon may cause a false negative result in non-treponemal syphilis tests, which complicates an accurate diagnosis. In this case report a newborn syphilis case was presented to emphasize the importance of reverse algorithm in diagnosis and the prozone phenomenon which can cause problems in rapid plasma reagin (RPR) test. The 2920 g infant patient was born from a 24-year-old m...
