Photo credit Claudia Soraya Dear Carol: I’m retired, divorced, and was in decent health and looking forward to some travel in my future until my widowed 93-year-old mother’s health began to deteriorate dramatically. I moved across the country and away from my kids and grandkids to temporarily live with Mom so that I could get her health on track. But that hasn’t happened. She can barely walk, she’s chronically confused, and she needs oxygen for COPD. After living with her for nearly a year, my own health is shot. I’ve gained a lot of weight from stress eating. My knees are screaming at me...

Conclusion: 16 of 19 studies treated by CHM granules only showed positive result in 7 diseases and negative result in 1 disease. 17 of 21 studies treated by combination therapy against conventional therapy showed positive result in 6 diseases and negative result in 3 diseases. However, both the absolute and relative effectiveness of CHM formula granules compared with placebo need to be considered clinically. PMID: 31110552 [PubMed]

We examined the effects of the independent and combined effects of Zataria Multiflora supplementation and circuit resistance training (CRT) on selected adipokines among postmenopausal women. Forty-eight postmenopausal women were divided into four groups: Exercise (EG, n = 12), Zataria Multiflora (ZMG, n = 12), exercise and Zataria Multiflora (ZMEG, n = 12), and control (CG, n = 12). Participants in experimental groups either performed CRT (3 sessions per week with intensity at 55% of one-repetition maximum) or supplemented with Zataria Multiflora (500 mg every day after breakfast with 100 ml of water), or their combination...

BY GORDON MURPHY, PA-C, MPHThe patient was blue, her primary care physician noted. Quite literally, in fact. The 38-year-old woman had sought care for a recurrent urinary tract infection, and that's when her primary care physician found her pulse oximetry to be 74%. He was concerned about hypoxia and asked us to evaluate her.The patient reported taking an SSRI for anxiety and having a hormone-eluting IUD. She had previously had a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. She said she had a headache, but had been instructed not to take NSAIDs. She said she had just finished a course of Cipro for her UTI, but continued to be symptomatic w...

CONCLUSIONS: PDE5 inhibitors appear to have clear beneficial effects in group 1 PAH. Sildenafil, tadalafil and vardenafil are all efficacious in this clinical setting, and clinicians should consider the side-effect profile for each individual when choosing which PDE5 inhibitor to prescribe. While there appears to be some benefit for the use of PDE5 inhibitors in PH-left-heart disease, it is not clear based on the mostly small, short-term studies, which type of left-heart disease stands to benefit. These data suggest possible harm in valvular heart disease. There is no clear benefit for PDE5 inhibitors in pulmonary hypertens...

Abstract Correct use and ease of use of a placebo dry powder inhaler was evaluated in two single-arm, United States-multicenter, phase-IV studies in adults with asthma ( n = 259) or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD; n = 278) who were receiving maintenance inhaler therapy. Subjects demonstrating correct placebo inhaler use within three attempts at screening were instructed to take once-daily inhalations from the inhaler for 28 ± 2 days (continuing usual maintenance), followed by randomization to complete one of two versions of an ease-of-use questionnaire and reassessment for correct inhaler use. ...
