Thread Starter Personal statement Follow 11 hours ago 11h ago Its a good idea to look at the websites for the universities you're interested in. Most of them have sections on what they look for in a PS. For instance, many universities, like Cambridge, are only really interested subject related activities. You could go to masterclasses or enter essay competitions. But you should always say what you gained from them or how they helped inform your learning/views. Reading academic books is good, but don't just say that you've read them, you need to elaborate on what you got from them, did you agree with them etc. It's also good to choose less obvious academic books. A economics academic who reviews applications told me that he dies a little inside when he sees mention of Freakonomics in a PS - it's been done to death. Some universities are not too concerned if you do extra-curriculum things, like captain of the hocky team team etc, however ...
