Moving beyond stenosis: Assessing ischemia based off plaque morphology and burden of disease on coronary CTA

The ideal noninvasive test would identify patients with coronary artery disease, characterize atherosclerotic plaque, and bridge the anatomic findings to functional significance of specific coronary lesions. Coronary computed tomographic angiography (CTA) has emerged as the gold standard noninvasive test for detecting coronary artery disease (CAD).1 –3 However, the identification of CAD alone is insufficient as the relationship between coronary stenosis and ischemia is complex and frequently discordant.
