Authors: Huntington SF, Hoag JR, Wang R, Zeidan AM, Giri S, Gore SD, Ma X, Gross CP, Davidoff AJ Abstract BACKGROUND: Provider experience, or clinical volume, is associated with improved outcomes in many complex healthcare settings. Despite increased complexity of anticancer therapies, studies evaluating physician-level experience and cancer treatment outcomes are lacking. METHODS: A population-based study was conducted of older adults (aged ≥66 years) diagnosed with B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2004 through 2011 using SEER-Medicare data. Analysis focused on outcomes in patients receiving rituximab, the ...

This study examined the relationship between PCB serum levels and risk of NHL in a Northern Italy area (Brescia province), where a chemical factory produced PCBs from 1938 to 1984, causing human contamination. A case-control study of 215 NHL patients and 215 control subjects was conducted. Cases and controls were assayed for serum levels of 33 PCB congeners. No associations were found between risk of NHL and serum levels of total PCBs (OR = 0.51; 95% CI: 0.25-1.04 for highest vs lowest quartile) or specific PCB congeners. The study confirmed a strong association of NHL with HCV infection (OR = 3.60; 95% CI: 1.30-10...

Conclusions: Our study provides a comprehensive overview of the fl burden and its geographic distribution in Canada. Regional clustering of this disease in concentrated industrial zones strongly suggests that multiple environmental factors might play a crucial role in the development of this lymphoma. A promising and expensive type of immunotherapy, called CAR T-cell therapy, is now covered by Medicare. This news may affect mesothelioma patients in the future. Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell, or CAR T-cell, therapy involves the laboratory reprogramming of a patient’s T cells, which are a type of white blood cell responsible for protecting the body against infection and disease. The T cells are genetically modified to better recognize and attack cancer. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the immunotherapy procedure for non-Hodgkin lymphoma and B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia. It is...

Among the five patients, three patients were diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) and two patients with myeloid sarcoma (MS) of the uterine cervix. Biopsies of the uterine cervices demonstrated the involvement of lymphoid cells or myeloid blasts cells. Immunohistochemical staining demonstrated the expression of B-lymphoid and myeloid lineage markers. The associated lysozyme, myeloperoxidase and mast/stem...

AbstractPrimary Sj ögren syndrome (pSS) is usually a mild disease, but serious complications such as non-Hodgkin lymphoma—and hypothetically other malignancies—may develop. The aim of this study was to evaluate both overall and specific incidence of cancer in a cohort of patients with pSS compared to the expected incidence in general population of Argentina. Retrospective analytic study of pSS patients fulfilling American-European Consensus Group (AECG) criteria, followed from the time of their diagnosis until the end of the study, death, loss of follow- up, or being given a diagnosis of cancer. Cancer inc...
