ConclusionTOL methodology allowed effective training of both groups of readers. The iterative nature of individual training ensured production of user-friendly materials including frequently-asked-questions sheets. It allowed for each person to feel that their views were fully listened to and incorporated into the training package, allowing for training materials with high face validity.

PeixotoAbstractTest objects or phantoms are important tools for the optimization of dose and image quality in mammography. The main quality control protocols in mammography adopt homogeneous phantoms for image quality assessment, which generate images with unrealistic uniform background and do not consider the effect of breast anatomy on image quality. Realistic three-dimensional (3D) anthropomorphic phantoms with characteristic contrast of breast tissues are required to better evalua...

Breast computed tomography (BCT) is an emerging application of X-ray tomography in radiological practice. A few clinical prototypes are under evaluation in hospitals and new systems are under development aiming at improving spatial and contrast resolution and reducing delivered dose. At the same time, synchrotron-radiation phase-contrast mammography has been demonstrated to offer substantial advantages when compared with conventional mammography. At Elettra, the Italian synchrotron radiation facility, a clinical program of phase-contrast BCT based on the free-space propagation approach is under development. In this paper, ...
