Treatment of Patients With Psychogenic Nonepileptic Attacks

This Viewpoint describes the neurological disorder known as psychogenic nonepileptic attacks (PNEA) —including the symptoms, appropriate diagnostic testing, and treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy—and how it can be distinguished from epilepsy to avoid treating patients with PNEA with potentially harmful epileptic medications or surgery.
