Safeguards in the Adoption of Robotic Surgery

This Viewpoint discusses the increasing use of robotic-assisted surgery and the issues, including potential harm, surgeon credentialing, and transparency in informed patient consent, that should be considered by payers, health care organizations, and surgeons to ensure that safeguards remain in place until stronger evidence for or against the use of this technology is available.
