Spatiotemporal distribution and determinants of measles incidence during a large outbreak, Italy, September 2016 to July 2018.

ConclusionThe spread of measles between September 2016 and July 2018 in Italy indicates the need to improve VC and to explore further how societal and other parameters might be linked to incidence. PMID: 31039836 [PubMed - in process]

Abstract Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) a re-emerging mosquito-borne alpha virus causes significant distress which is further accentuated in the lack of specific therapeutics or a preventive vaccine, mandating accelerated research for anti-CHIKV therapeutics. In recent years, drug repositioning has gained recognition for the curative interventions for its cost and time efficacy. CHIKV envelope proteins are considered to be the promising targets for drug discovery because of their essential role in viral attachment and entry in the host cells. In the current study, we propose structure-based virtual screening of drug mo...

DISCUSSION: Contrary to our hypothesis, our evidence suggests Twitter content differs significantly from English mass media content. Evidence from our study helps inform media monitoring and communications surveillance during global public health crises, such as infectious disease outbreaks, as well as reactions to health promotion campaigns. Evidence has revealed critical roles for small RNAs (sRNAs) in bacterial physiology and pathology by modulating gene expression post transcription. However, little information about sRNA-mediated regulation in V. alginolyticus is available. We experimentally verified the existence and characterized the function of sRNA srvg17985 in V. alginolyticus ...

ConclusionBSI due to Enterococcus spp. in elderly patients is associated with high mortality. Polymicrobial infection, age and SOFA score are factors associated with poor outcome. Conversely, early alert from the microbiology laboratory improves patient survival.

ConclusionsOur prospective study performed in a real-world setting showed a high immunogenicity and safety of HBV-AS04 vaccine in patients with CKD not yet on maintenance dialysis. Studies provided with longer follow-ups are under way to assess the durability of seroprotection in responders.

Since the early 1990s, the Netherlands has experienced several large measles epidemics, in 1992-94, 1999-2000 and in 2013-14. These outbreaks mainly affected orthodox Protestants, a geographically clustered population with overall lower measles-mumps-rubella first dose (MMR-1) vaccination coverage (60%) than the rest of the country (>?95%). In the 2013-14 epidemic described here, which occurred between 27 May 2013 and 12 March 2014, 2,700 cases were reported. Several control measures were implemented including MMR vaccination for 6-14-month-olds and recommendations to reduce the risk in healthcare workers. The vast majo...
