Outcomes of three different ways to train medical students as ultrasound tutors

In order to provide faculty-wide undergraduate ultrasound training in times of scarce resources, many medical faculties employ trained peer-student tutors to oversee the hands-on training. However, data to gui...

Publication date: 25 April 2020Source: Food Chemistry, Volume 310Author(s): Jing Zhao, Zhaorui Meng, Zexin Zhao, Longshan ZhaoAbstractA green and highly efficient ultrasound-assisted deep eutectic solvent extraction combined with functionalized magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotubes solid-phase extraction method for determination of seven pesticide residues in food products was developed. Various types of deep eutectic solvents (DESs) were screened for high extraction efficiencies and DES composing of proline and propylene glycol at 1:3 M ratio was selected as it exhibited highest yields. Extraction conditions were st...

Authors: Umapathy S, Thulasi R, Gupta N, Sivanadhan S Abstract The aim and objectives of this study were as follows: (i) to perform automated segmentation of knee thermal image using the regional isotherm-based segmentation (RIBS) algorithm and segmentation of ultrasound image using the image J software; (ii) to implement the RIBS algorithm using computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) tools for classification of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients and normal subjects based on feature extraction values; and (iii) to correlate the extracted thermal imaging features and colour Doppler ultrasound (CDUS) features in the knee re...

Authors: Grajdeanu IA, Statescu L, Vata D, Popescu IA, Porumb-Andrese E, Patrascu AI, Taranu T, Crisan M, Solovastru LG Abstract Plaque psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated disease, which has a multifactorial etiopathogenesis. Practical non-invasive techniques to monitor plaque psoriasis progression and treatment are necessary. Imaging techniques available for psoriasis assessment may vary in terms of resolution, depth of penetration and visual representation. This review summarizes the current developments in the field of psoriasis non-invasive imaging techniques, such as dermoscopy, conventional ultrasound and...

Authors: Rottenstreich A, Yanai N, Yagel S, Porat S Abstract BACKGROUND: Sonographic estimation of birth weight may differ among evaluators due to its operator-dependent nature. OBJECTIVES: To compare the accuracy of estimation of fetal birth weight by sonography between ultrasound-certified physicians and registered diagnostic medical technicians. METHODS: The authors reviewed ultrasound examinations that had been performed by either technicians or ultrasound-certified obstetricians between 2010 and 2017, and within 2 days of delivery. Inclusion criteria were: singleton viable pregnancy, details of four ul...

Authors: Park JK, Lee KH Abstract Endoscopic ultrasound-guided tissue acquisition (EUS-TA) is a well-established method for pathological diagnosis of solid pancreatic neoplasm. It can be performed either as EUS-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) or EUS-guided fine-needle biopsy (EUSFNB). The incidence of adverse events related to EUS-TA is less than 1%. The factors that affect the diagnostic accuracy and specimen adequacy include the techniques used, type and size of the needle, competency of endosonographers, presence of cytopathologists/ cytotechnologists, and rapid on-site examination. EUS-TA may contribute...

Conclusions: EUS-FNA is useful for diagnosing recurrent cancer, even after pancreaticobiliary surgery. The diagnoses of recurrence at soft-tissue sites should be interpreted with caution. PMID: 31818050 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
