The inflammasome is an intracellular multiprotein signaling complex that is linked to pathogen sensing and initiation of the inflammatory response in physiological and pathological conditions. The most characterized inflammasome is the NLRP3 inflammasome, which is a known sensor of cell stress and is tightly regulated in resting cells. However, altered regulation of the NLRP3 inflammasome is found in several pathological conditions, including autoimmune disease and cancer. NLRP3 expression was shown to be post-transcriptionally regulated and multiple miRNA have been implicated in post-transcriptional regulation of the inflammasome. Therefore, in recent years, miRNA based post-transcriptional control of NLRP3 has become a focus of much research, especially as a potential therapeutic approach. In this review, we provide a summary of the recent investigations on the role of miRNA...

In this study, we present three cases of testicular infarction and discuss their clinical characteristics, imaging features and clinical management. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Three adult males with prolonged epididymitis presented with chronic unilateral testicular pain, tenderness, and palpable swelling, including left varicocele in one case and hydrocele in the other two cases. Patient's symptoms were not relieved after antibiotic therapy. We analyzed the diagnosis, management, and outcome of these three cases of testicular infarction resulting from prolonged epididymitis. This includes the clinical characteristics, feat...
This study aims to review, in chronological order, the stool examination techniques and discuss their advantages, limitations, and perspectives, and to provide professionals and specialists in this field with data that lays a foundation for critical analysis on the use of such procedures. The concentration procedures that constitute the main techniques applied in routine research and in parasitological kits are a) spontaneous sedimentation; b) centrifugation-sedimentation with formalin-ethyl acetate; and c) flotation with zinc sulfate solution. While selecting a technique, one should consider the purpose of its application...
This study aimed to estimate the risk of leprosy treatment suspension in patients receiving polypharmacy. METHODS We performed this case-control study in which the primary outcome was defined as the need to discontinue multibacillary leprosy treatment for at least one supervised dose, and the main risk factor was the detection of polypharmacy. Multivariate analysis by logistic regression was used for calculating odds ratio (OR). RESULTS: This study included 103 patients, of whom 43 needed to discontinue leprosy treatment (hemolysis = 26, hepatitis = 2, hemolysis associated with hepatitis = 6, and suspected treatment resist...
In conclusion, miR-204-5p/TFAP2A feedback loop promoted the proliferative and motorial capacities of cervical cancer cells. This finding suggested a novel modulatory loop of miR-204-5p/TFAP2A in cervical cancer, offering promising biomarkers for cervical cancer therapy. PMID: 32474464 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
This study was to evaluate the performance of serum netrin-1 for detection of colorectal cancer (CRC) in both clinical/screening sets. METHODS: A total of 115 consecutive patients with CRC and matched healthy controls were included in Clinical Set. Fifty subjects with CRC, 50 subjects with advanced adenoma (AA), and 150 matched control participants free of neoplasia were included in Screening Set. RESULTS: In Clinical set, subjects with CRC presented higher levels of serum netrin-1 (513.9 ± 22.6 pg/mL) than controls (347.8 ± 20.3 pg/mL, p
