Outcomes of Disease-Specific Next-Generation Sequencing Gene Panel Testing in Adolescents and Young Adults with Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal cancer (CRC) has typically been considered a disease affecting individuals older than age 50. However, recent data has demonstrated a trend of increasing numbers of patients under age 50 diagnosed with CRC. In fact, the rate of CRC in individuals between ages 20-34 is anticipated to increase 90.0-124.2% by 2030 if current rates continue [1]. Although the cause for this increase is not fully understood, potential risk factors include obesity, physical inactivity, increased red meat intake, and decreased vegetable consumption.
