1C Amplified Pain Syndromes in Children: When It Hurts Too Much

Amplified pain syndromes encompass a wide spectrum of musculoskeletal pain disorders that includes pediatric fibromyalgia, localized and diffuse amplified pain, and complex regional pain syndrome. Amplified pain can severely affect physical function, socialization, daily activities and quality of life in children and adolescents. This negative effect on quality of life can lead to prolonged disability and a profound effect on their behavioral and cognitive health. Because it is important that children experiencing this condition begin to use their body in a normal way, treatment and management is aimed at breaking the abnormal pain reflex and returning the child to normal functional activities especially school, sports and social activities.

Authors: Morris AL, Colbourne T, Kirkpatrick I, Banerji V Abstract Nontraumatic chylous pleural effusions (chylothorax) and pericardial effusions (chylopericardium) are rare. They can, however, accompany intrathoracic malignancies and, most commonly, lymphomas. An association of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (cll) with chylopericardium has rarely been reported. A 68-year-old woman with cll, previously treated with single-agent fludarabine in the community, developed pleuritic chest pain and a new pericardial effusion. Computed tomography (ct) imaging of her chest revealed a large pericardial effusion with progressiv...

ConclusionMesenteric cysts represent a rare cause of intra-abdominal mass. Owing to low prevalence, literature is limited as is guidance on management. Careful pre-operative planning is essential so as to avoid operative complications. Imaging such as USS is of great importance; however Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) may be of more benefit, owing to the complex anatomical relations within which mesenteric cysts can present. Surgical excision is widely reported as the surgical treatment of choice for symptomatic cysts

Publication date: Available online 13 November 2019Source: Arthroscopy TechniquesAuthor(s): Julio de Pablos Fernández, Lucas Arbeloa-Gutierrez, Antonio Arenas-MiquelezAbstractThe mainstay for treatment of articular deformity caused by advanced tricompartmental osteoarthritis of the knee is total knee arthroplasty. When this is also associated with an extra-articular deformity, this also must be compensated or corrected. In this scenario, it is essential to achieve an optimal mechanical situation by restoring the anatomical and mechanical limb axes and an adequate soft-tissue balance. These premises are necessary to ...
