Michael Gottesman is the NIH Deputy Director of Intramural Research (DDIR) and also chief of the NCI Laboratory of Cell Biology. As DDIR, Gottesman oversees and ultimately approves the hiring of all NIH principal investigators. As an NCI branch chief, he has mentored and helped find jobs for dozens of postdocs who have passed through his lab. Moreover, as an award-winning scientist and member of both the National Academy of Science and National Academy of Medicine, Gottesman has a keen understanding of which scientific fields show the most promise. Similarly, co-presenter Sharon Milgram, director of the NIH Office of Intramural Training and Education (OITE), has her finger on the pulse of scientific employment trends.
