906 Cutibacterium acnes RNA activates the human inflammatory response via TLR8

Acne is a chronic inflammatory skin disease thought to be driven by the activation of innate immune response to Cutibacterium acnes (C. acnes). However, the direct cause-and-effect relationship between the bacteria and the skin disease has been difficult to establish given that C. acnes is a ubiquitous skin commensal. Here, we investigated the mechanisms of how the immune system recognizes viable C. acnes and initiates the inflammatory response. Exposure of human peripheral blood mononuclear cells to of live C.
