The Potential Role of Metabolic Disease in Liver Tumorigenesis in Patients With Hepatitis B Surface Antigen Seroclearance

Song et  al1 recently published a report in Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology on their findings from a large population-based cohort study. Their study evaluated the relationship between hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) incidence and risk factors among a group of 37,555 subjects in China with differen t hepatitis B surface antigens (HBsAg seroclearance, HBsAg persistent carriers, and HBsAg negative). They concluded that metabolic disease (obesity or fatty disease) may play a role in liver tumorigenesis in patients with HBsAg seroclearance.
