Mason lecture: my journey and lessons learned

Today, I invite you to join me on a somewhat complicated and circuitous trip with a few big bumps in the road. From the beginning I was a rather rambunctious and difficult child, always getting into trouble. Perhaps because of my wild pre-teen years, I was sent to a “Prep School”, the Mercersburg Academy, in the middle of rural Pennsylvania. They had a guard path where, when you did something bad, like hanging toilet paper on the trees or be late for breakfast, you would be forced to walk around a square for hours on a Saturday afternoon, when the school's football team would be in action.
