Novel T-wave Detection Technique with Minimal Processing and RR-Interval Based Enhanced Efficiency

ConclusionsA T-wave detection technique requiring minimal pre-processing and with simple decision rule has been designed. The noticeably high positive predictivity rate of the proposed technique shows its efficiency to detect T-wave peak.

This study aimed to evaluate efficacy and safety of comprehensive early rehabilitation therapy for ICU patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS This study recruited ICU patients who were diagnosed as having cerebral hemorrhage or traumatic brain injury. ICU patients were randomly divided into an early rehabilitation therapy group (Observation group, n=21) and a Control group (n=21). Patients in the Control group underwent persistent monitoring of respiratory functions and blood oxygen saturation, as well as electrocardiographic monitoring. ICU patients in the Observation group underwent individualized treatments based on conventiona...

Authors: Dong Y, Li G Abstract Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most common forms of chronic liver disease in developed countries and is associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and metabolic syndrome. It is defined as steatosis in over 5% of hepatocytes. The disease spectrum of NAFLD ranges from simple fatty liver to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, liver fibrosis, even hepatic cirrhosis. The disease affects various extra-hepatic systems such as the cardiovascular system and urinary system. Heart-related disease is identified as the leading cause of mor...

A 40-something man with Hx of treated HTN had chest " squeezing, " with SOB and diaphoresis, 10 hours prior to presentation. It lasted 5 minutes then resolved.  There was an exertional component.  Then, 1 hour before arrival, it recurred, again lasting 5 minutes.  His 3rd and last episode was worse, had radiation to both arms, and was 10/10.  911 was called and this prehospital ECG was recorded at time zero:Limb leads:Note the artifact that is simultaneously recorded in all limb leads.  This was mistaken by the treating physicians for ST depression initially.Precordial leads:Wha...

This study aimed to examine the effects of warm steam inhalation before bedtime on subsequent sleep quality. The participants included 17 adult men with mild sleep difficulties and anxiety. All experiments were conducted in the participants' homes. The participants were instructed to wear a warm steam-generating mask or sham mask over the nose and mouth for 15 minutes immediately before habitual bedtime and were then allowed to sleep until their habitual waking time. The functional mask provided approximately 600 mg of steam for 10 minutes and maintained an interior temperature of 38-40°C for 15&th...

Aletta The soundscape is defined by the International Standard Organization (ISO) 12913-1 as the human’s perception of the acoustic environment, in context, accompanying physiological and psychological responses. Previous research is synthesized with studies designed to investigate soundscape at the ‘unconscious’ level in an effort to more specifically conceptualize biomarkers of the soundscape. This review aims firstly, to investigate the consistency of methodologies applied for the investigation of physiological aspects of soundscape; secondly, to underline the feasibility of physiologi...

AbstractFunction and dysfunction of endothelial cells are regulated by a multitude of factors. Endothelial cell research often requires in vitro cell culture experiments. Hence, various culture media specifically designed to promote endothelial cell growth are available. These strikingly differ in their composition: complex media contain endothelial cell growth supplement (ECGS), an extract produced of bovine brain with undefined amounts of biologically active compounds, whilst defined media contain selected growth factors in defined concentrations. We here compared the effect of seven purchasable endothelial cell culture ...

Authors: Anyfantakis D, Makrakis G Abstract Long QT syndrome is characterized by prolongation of the corrected QT interval and is associated with fatal arrhythmias. R on T phenomenon is the coincidence of a premature ventricular complex with a T wave and may result to syncope and sudden cardiac death. Here we present a case of a 59-year-old woman with no previous history of medication, receiving moxifloxacin for community-acquired pneumonia. She was admitted complaining for thoracic pain and shortness of breath. Electrocardiogram showed both R on T phenomenon and QT prolongation. After discontinuation of the antibi...

Treatments for advanced prostate cancer that suppress testosterone, a hormone (also called an androgen) that drives the malignant cells to grow and spread, are collectively referred to as androgen deprivation therapies, or ADT. These therapies can significantly extend lifespans in men who have the disease, but they also have a range of challenging side effects. In 2004, Dr. Marc Garnick, Gorman Brothers Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and editor in chief of HarvardProstateKnowledge.org, reported that in some men, an ADT drug called aberelix lengthens the time it tak...

Publication date: January 2020Source: Biomedical Signal Processing and Control, Volume 55Author(s): Pragyna parimita Swain, S. Sengottuvel, Rajesh Patel, Awadhesh Mani, K. GireesanAbstractMeasurement of weak magnetic fields generated by the electrical activity of the heart is known as magnetocardiogram (MCG). MCG is usually measured using highly sensitive Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices (SQUIDs) inside a Magnetically Shielded Room (MSR). Since MCG signals have a relatively higher amplitude, researchers have attempted to measure MCG in poorly shielded or even in unshielded environments using higher order gradio...

CONCLUSIONS: A higher MFR score is associated with reduced LV reverse remodeling at one-year follow-up, whereas the MFR score does not appear to interfere with long-term mortality after TAVR. PMID: 31532394 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
