Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Using Leaf Extract of Holoptelea integrifolia and Preliminary Investigation of Its Antioxidant, Anti-inflammatory, Antidiabetic and Antibacterial Activities

Publication date: Available online 15 April 2019Source: Journal of Environmental Chemical EngineeringAuthor(s): Vijay Kumar, Simranjeet Singh, Bhavana Srivastava, Ragini Bhadouria, Ravindra SinghAbstractIn present study, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized from the aqueous extract of Holoptelea integrifolia (HI) leaves and characterized by UV-Visible spectroscopy, Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), field emission scan electron microscopy (FESEM), electron disperse X-ray (EDX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. UV-visible study confirmed the formation of AgNPs. FTIR studies confirmed the presence of OH and NH functional groups of secondary molecules of HI capped on the AgNPs surface. FESEM studies revealed the formation of aggregates of spherical shape of size 32-38 nm. Presence of elemental silver was confirmed by EDX studies. Face centred cubic (FCC) crystal structure of biosynthesized AgNPs was governed by the XRD analysis. The biosynthesized AgNPs exhibited significant antioxidant activities (51.49 ± 3.33, 41.18 ± 2.27, and 74.59 ± 3.08 % for the DPPH, metal chelating, and nitric oxide assay). Remarkable anti-diabetic (86.66 ± 5.03 %), anti-inflammatory (binding constant 2.60 ± 0.05 × 10-4) and antibacterial (MIC from 75 to150 µl) activities were noticed for biosynthesized AgNPs. This was the first r...

CONCLUSION: Arterial hypertension and elevated diastolic blood pressure are associated with a risk for AS requiring surgery in subjects below 60 years of age. Strict blood pressure control in this group is strongly advocated to avoid other cardiovascular diseases correlated to hypertension. If hypertension and elevated diastolic blood pressure are risk factors for developing AS requiring surgery need further investigations. Notably, elevated fasting glucose levels were related to AS requiring surgery in older adults without concomitant CAD. PMID: 31109205 [PubMed - in process]

We report a 70-year-old man with diabetes who presented to our outpatient clinic with severe chronic daily complaints of headache. The headache was located frontoparietally and kept him awake at night. Imaging (nonenhanced computed tomography [CT], magnetic resonance imaging, and positron emission tomography/CT) showed a hypermetabolic mass on the right side of the skull base, in the middle ear, and in the mastoid process, with invasion and partial destruction of the surrounding elements of the petrous bone, the occipital bone, and the sphenoid bone on the right, with extension by way of the clivus into the apex of the lef...

AbstractBackgroundThere are scanty data from India on the prevalence and clinical profile of cirrhotic cardiomyopathy (CCM).AimTo identify the prevalence and clinical presentation of CCM in patients with liver cirrhosis.MethodsFive hundred and eighty-six patients with liver cirrhosis were recruited based on inclusion criteria and evaluated for cardiac parameters using electrocardiography, 2-dimensional echocardiography, dobutamine stress test and coronary angiography as needed. Baseline demographic data, liver biochemistry, endoscopic and radiological findings were recorded in all the patients. Appropriate statistical anal...

In 2016 intermittently scanned continuous glucose monitoring (isCGM) became the first reimbursed CGM system in Belgium. Many children with type 1 diabetes (T1D) treated with multiple daily injections as well as with continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) switched from self-monitoring of blood glucose to isCGM to monitor their treatment. In 2017 the Enlite ® real-time CGM (rtCGM) system was reimbursed enabling its use with the Minimed® 640G insulin pump with integrated SmartGuard technology.

A patient with DM presented with acute chest pain. Here was his ED ECG:There isLVH in limb leads, with a 17 mm R-wave in aVL, and deep S-wave in inferior leads. With this much voltage, one expects some repolarization abnormalities.Indeed, there is a bit of ST depression in aVL (discordant to the tall R-wave) that does not appear to be out of proportion. There is inferior ST Elevation, but the S-waves are also of high voltage. Is this an inferior STEMI?  Or is the LVH with expected repolarization abnormalities? There is also some ST depression in V2.  Possible posterior involvement?CommentTo me, the inferior ST E...

AbstractPurpose of ReviewRadionuclide myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) continues to be the most reliable modality for diagnosis of hemodynamically significant coronary artery disease (CAD). The application of radionuclide MPI using single photon emission computed tomography (SEPCT) and positron emission tomography (PET) for CAD is reviewed, with emphasis on diagnosis and risk stratification.Recent FindingsContemporary studies have reported the diagnostic and prognostic value of novel imaging protocols, employing stress-first or stress-only approach. In addition, the superior diagnostic value of PET has been established w...

This study aimed to determine whether 3 months of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) improves left ventricular function during exercise in adults with type 2 diabetes. Methods Participants performed a V˙O2peak test and received a DXA scan and total blood volume measurement at baseline. Left ventricular end-diastolic volume (LVEDV), left ventricular end-systolic volume (LVESV), and left ventricular stroke volume (LVSV) were then measured at rest and during low- and moderate-intensity semirecumbent exercise in adults with type 2 diabetes before and after 3 months of HIIT (n = 11) or no training (control) (n = 5). Th...

I was speaking with someone recently who has a series of chronic and painful conditions; some of which are noticeable and some ‘invisible’. What is particularly distressful is that people sometimes say to her, “At least you don’t have cancer.” How dismissive is that? I know they are trying to help her feel better about what she does have and perhaps even attempt to minimize the impact, but it is not compassionate or helpful. There are diagnoses such as fibromyalgia, lupus, diabetes, arthritis or neuropathy which some people have to navigate. It might mean taking naps on an as-needed basis, en...

ConclusionThere were significant differences in relative BV, relative mean transit time, and ST between the two groups before and after surgery, and the postoperative BV in the NTF group and ST values in the two groups were increased compared with the preoperative values. The BV in the NTF group and the ST values in the two groups were effective indicators in evaluating the changes between preoperative and postoperative perfusion. These results indicate that TTT could increase plantar tissue perfusion as assessed by BV and ST; this increase was among the reasons for the surface healing of severe DF ulcers.
