Effects of Huanglian-Renshen-Decoction, a Fixed Mixture of Traditional Chinese Medicine, on the Improvement of Glucose Metabolism by Maintenance of Pancreatic β Cell Identity in db/db Mice. Evid Based Complement Alternat Med. 2019;2019:1232913 Authors: Yuan F, Wang D, Ma L, Qin X, Gong J, Hu M, Su H, Dong H, Lu F Abstract Huanglian-Renshen-Decoction (HRD) is widely used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in China. However, the underlying mechanism is unclear. We aimed to investigate the mechanism by which HRD regulates the glucose level. Forty 7-8-week-old db/db (BSK) mice were randomly assi...

Authors: Yadav GK, Pahwa M, Singh M, Tyagi V, Chadha S Abstract Testosterone deficiency syndrome (TDS) is a gradual age-related phenomenon that occurs in a large proportion of the aging male population. This current prospective study was done with the objective to estimate the prevalence of age-associated TDS in India and its clinical profile. A total of 800 male patients aged ≥40 year were approached to participate in the study. A brief history and focused examination was done. Based on our exclusion criteria, 55 patients were excluded. Androgen deficiency in aging male (ADAM) questionnaire was administe...

Abstract PURPOSE: To assess the nationwide rate of acute postoperative endophthalmitis (APE) after cataract extraction in Korea and to evaluate potential risk factors thereof. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Nationwide insurance claims data from July 2014 to June 2017 were reviewed. All patients with phacoemulsification or extracapsular/intracapsular cataract extraction were included. Exclusion criteria were combined glaucoma surgery or total vitrectomy or when the patient had a history of intraocular foreign body. RESULTS: In total, 1505103 cases (982203 patients) were included. APE developed in 953 cases (938 p...

On one hand, it classifies retina images into different levels of severity with good performance. On the other hand, this classifier is able of explaining the classification results by assigning a score for each point in the hidden and input spaces. These scores indicate the pixel contribution to the final classification. To obtain these scores, we propose a new pixel-wise score propagation model that for e...

CONCLUSIONS CPE has the effects of decreasing blood glucose and insulin resistance, and enhancing glucose tolerance in DM mice, which may be related to its effects of reducing oxidation and reduced apoptosis, and relieving STZ in pancreatic beta cell injury. PMID: 31011149 [PubMed - in process]

This study aimed to investigate the role of transforming growth factor-β-activated protein kinase 1(TAK1) in the development of diabetic nephropathy (DN) by regulating the protein stability of Ski-related novel protein N(SnoN).Main methodsA combination of in vivo and in vitro model systems was used to investigate how TAK1 regulated the expression of SnoN protein in DN. The study determined the effects of modulating the expression or activity of TAK1 on the SnoN protein level and its influence on the epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) and extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition.Key findingsUnder the high-gluco...

Gagniuc, Constantin Ionescu-Tirgoviste, Serban Radu Gabriel, Elvira GagniucAbstractHere we describe a novel prototype method for parallel sampling of electrical signals from 200 sensors. The amplified signal from each sensor was remotely converted into a luminous signal on a LED matrix. A digital camera supported by a duralumin skeleton, was installed at 15 cm above an LED matrix inside an opaque box. Images were sampled at discrete time intervals of 5 s. A total of 25,920 images of the LED matrix have been recorded. Thus, 5.2 ...

We report an unusual occurrence of this disease, complicated by segmental pulmonary artery thrombus in a 15-year-old with poorly controlled diabetes. His severe, medication-resistant infection was ultimately treated successfully with antifungal medication combined with aggressive surgical debridement. The pulmonary artery segmental thrombus resolved after treatment of the underlying infection without anticoagulation.
