Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy increase the risk of developing neovascular age-related macular degeneration in later life. Hypertens Pregnancy. 2019 Apr 12;:1-8 Authors: Curtin K, Theilen LH, Fraser A, Smith KR, Varner MW, Hageman GS Abstract BACKGROUND: Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) and short-term adverse outcomes have long been recognized; however, survivors remain at risk of long-term complications. We investigated whether HDP is associated with the development of choroidal neovascular age-related macular degeneration (CNV AMD). METHODS: We identified 31,454 women who experienced HDP based on Utah birth certificates and 62,908 unexposed women matched 2:1 to the exposed. Risk of CNV AMD was estimated using Cox models. FINDINGS: Women with HDP exhibited an 80% higher risk for early CNV AMD (age
Conclusions: It appears that further studies are necessary to explain this problem, perhaps to include an evaluation of TF levels in psoriatic skin. PMID: 31616219 [PubMed]

In this study, we aimed to explore the efficacy and safety profile of apatinib monotherapy, or combined with chemotherapy or endothelial growth factor receptor (EGFR)-TKI in heavily pretreated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with brain metastases. We performed a retrospective analysis for relapsed NSCLC patients with brain metastases from our institute, whom received apatinib (250mg or 500mg p.o. qd) monotherapy, or combination with EGFR-TKI or chemotherapy as second- or more line systemic therapy until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity occurred. The objective response rate (ORR), disease control rat...
Conclusions: The surgeons performing LM in women pre-treated with UPA should be aware of the abnormal texture of enucleated myomas. Nevertheless, this does not negatively affect the other surgical and clinical outcomes of these patients. PMID: 31617772 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

CONCLUSION: The prevalence of MetS is higher in patients with TRD than in those with other psychiatric disorders and characterized by a considerable undertreatment of some components of MetS in this population. Diagnosis and treatment of the components of MetS should be systematically performed to prevent the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases in patients with TRD. These findings highlight the need for integrated care, with more interaction and coordination between psychiatrists and primary care providers. PMID: 31617968 [PubMed - in process]

Abstract AIM: To evaluate clinical comorbidities and steroid use as risk factors for central serous retinopathy (CSR). METHODS: Using national insurance databases, we conducted a case-control study of beneficiaries with an incident diagnosis of CSR between 2007 and 2015 (n=35 492) and randomly selected controls matched on age-based and sex-based propensity scores (n=1 77 460). RESULTS: The mean age (SD) of cases was 49.1 (12.2) years, and the majority (69.2%) were male. Cases were more likely to have received steroids in the past year (OR 1.14, 95% CI 1.09 to 1.19, p
